Great photos. You and the old lens did well. I especially like the photos of your equipment.

Spent a little time down by the river this morning, I was really trying to evaluate a new to me old lens, a Canon nFD 300mm f/4 on a Fuji X-T2. All the pelican shots were taken with the old Canon lens with the exception of the two pelicans on the pilings which was taken with a Takumar 200mm f/3.5. The small Tri-Color Heron was shot with a Canon 100-400 II on a 5DSR.

Very enjoyable, surprised the gull didn't move!

These shots prove without a doubt that Good Glass Matters and those first few where you caught the Pelican landing on the piling without disturbing the little Gull shows how skilled those big birds are in real flight. They are among some of the best flyers in adverse conditions and your images show this perfectly.

Your work is extremely nice and well composed and I hope someday I can be as good at Birding as you are. Wonderful work.

Thanks for your comment and kind words.

I have to be honest Blair, high pixel density sensors help quite a bit, I was able compose when cropping, I was not close enough to fill that much of the frame with just the bird I was just happy to be able to keep that old manual lens focused. I switched over to a Pentax lens to compare the two and am afraid that I was not as well focused as I was the Canon, the comparison of the two lenses was the whole point of the outing.... Oh well, guess I will have to do it all over again.
