I've drank several of these and will probably drink more sooner or later... Still chilly here so a nice Stout this weekend (Oscar), summer will be IPAs like Two Hearted and some lighter ales like Spotted Cow.

I wouldn't touch them. They are probably so over priced that only the rich can afford them. There is a micro brewery up in Park City here in Utah. I don't drink their beer but their restaurant is great.

I disagree with you. Some truly great beers run about $8-10 a six-pack, which I don't consider overpriced. Certainly when you compare it to buying a beer in a retail dining establishment.

Dogfish Head also makes a great Pumpkin Ale in the fall.

When in my 20s, 30s and 40s I could drink a 6 pack of Bud in no time. Now one beer at a meal is it for me so a little higher cost of a 6 pack for good beer isn't a concern.

That said, I am hooked on porters and stouts. My favorite was Black Butte Porter. Now it's Irish Death, a dark smooth stout/ale from the Pacific Northwest brewed by Iron Horse Brewery in Ellensburg WA. Of course I'll try any new porter or stout I come across when eating out.

Being fond of prairies, one brew I was not able to resist is "Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat" which is described as
"oatmeal cream stout" from the Tallgrass Brewing Company of Manhattan, Kansas. I was initially attracted by the name, but the beer was appreciated too.

If you go down to the Rehoboth Beach area visit the big Dogfish brewery, about 10 miles away from the beach (Milton, DE), you can sample most of what they are brewing, Free!

DogFish Head and New Belgium are very good brews. A couple of my favorite names are Rogue Dead Guy and Old Leg Humper, had a picture of a dog humping a woman's leg.

Porters , Guinness and IPA's are my favorites too, try the Edmond Fitzgerald and listen to Gordon Lightfoot, Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald.

Polygamy Pale ale. “One is not enough, bring some home for the wives.”

Looks like a very good porter, and that was a great song by Gordon. I haven't been to the Great Lakes in 15 years, next time there I'll look for that beer. Probably won't find it in the Pacific NW.

Every time I go to the supermarket, I see a new brand of beer on the shelf - generally with a funny name. Below is a list of some odd names I came across in a list of the best 100 micro brews. The beers supposedly get better as they reach the bottom of the list. These guys must spend a lot of time thinking up names and label designs.

Green Flash Palate Wrecker
NoDa Hop Drop n Rol
New Belgium Fat Tire
Surly Brewing Darkness
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
The Bruery Saison Rue
Foothills Brewing Sexual Chocolate
The Alchemist Focal Banger
Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA
Russian River Supplication
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Half Acre Daisy Cutter
Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA
Hair of the Dog Adam
AleSmith Horny Devil
Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout
Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower
On the Wings Of Armageddon
Haymarket Angry Birds Rye IPA
Schnickelfritz
Autumnal Fire Doppelbock
Fullsteam Carver
Hop Head Red
Blind Pig IPA
Anti-Hero IPA
Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
Jolly Pumpkin La Roja
Toppling Goliath PseudoSue
Lagunitas Brown Shugga
Avery Rumpkin
Boulevard Tank 7
Three Floyds Zombie Dust
Dragon’s Milk
Boxer’s Revenge
Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter
Westbrook Mexican Cake
Dark Horse Plead the 5th
Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher
Every time I go to the supermarket, I see a new br... (show quote)

My daughter is a professionally certified bartender. A while back, she was working at Foothills Restaurant and Brewery in Winston-Salem, NC. Her favorite beer there was the Foothills Brewing Sexual Chocolate. It really is tasty.

Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout is excellent if you like caramelized, dark, bitter brews. My sister lives in Ashland, OR, near the Ashland Shakespeare Festival Rogue Theatre. The brew is named for the place. (Go there if you like great theatre!) Stout is very heavy and caloric, so go easy on it.

NoDa Hop Drop and Roll is made in Charlotte, in the North Davidson Area brewery. It is a very good hoppy beer.

I need to try Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter just for the name.

With all these good microbrews around, it's hard to like the cheap, mass-produced American bear-whiz stuff anymore.
