So, do they at least pay you for the advertising?

No. We get so much value that there is no need for pay.

I currently use Nikon, but after reading this thread I'll ask my wife, as soon as she wakes up this morning, if i can scrap all my "evil" N gear and immediately replace it with Canon gear. As soon as I get her approval, I'll make the change.

Maybe when I get the Canon gear I'll finally be able to take a good snapshot. :-)

So sad. But funny.

Perhaps you should read the link I provided. Not entirely. Keep your Nikon gear. I'm keeping mine.

Alessandro Stanzani, Executive Vice President of Canon Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Europe, Middle East & Africa, commented, “In addition to maintaining the number one share of the global market, Canon has continued to maintain its leadership position in unit and value share of the digital camera market in EMEA. We are continuing to push the boundaries of optical innovation and these results demonstrate the appetite for new technologies and camera systems.”

Good to know. With the collapse of the DSLR sales I hope they continue to push forward with new technology that captures the imagination of the millennial generation and whatever comes after them. DSLRs are the only way to capture quality images that can be blown up and framed. I hope they never go away.

I have a feeling that what's good for Canon is good for:
2. Sony.
3. Nikon.
4. Olympus.
5. Leica.
6. Fujifilm.
7. Kodak.
8. Samsung.
9. Panasonic.
10. Pentax.

Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality

27 March 2019
Canon UK Press Release

Canon Inc. today announces that the company’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLR and mirrorless cameras) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 16 consecutive years from 2003 to 2018.

Canon develops the key imaging system components featured in its EOS series of interchangeable-lens cameras – CMOS image sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses – under the core concept of ‘Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality’. Incorporating a wide-ranging product lineup – from high-performance flagship models that are highly trusted by professionals to entry-level models that allow users to enjoy high image quality shooting with easy operation – Canon continues to support the diverse needs of customers.

In 2003, the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS 300D. This groundbreaking camera, which was competitively priced and featured a compact, lightweight design, captured the top share of the global market and set the stage for growth in the digital SLR market. Since that time, Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording.

In March 2018, Canon launched products such as the EOS M50 mirrorless camera and EOS 2000D DSLR, which allow entry-level users to effortlessly enjoy capturing professional-looking images. In striving to further expand its line-up, Canon has once again secured the leading share of the global market in 2018.

In September 2018, in pursuit of further expanding the boundaries of image capture and new possibilities in visual expression, Canon launched the EOS R mirrorless camera, equipped with a full-frame sensor, as part of the EOS R System, a new imaging system with lenses at its core. What’s more, in February 2019 Canon launched the EOS RP – a small, light and practical full-frame mirrorless camera with impressive image quality – and announced six new RF lenses, currently under development, as part of its plan to expand the EOS R System.

Canon will continue to refine its diverse imaging technologies based on its core optical technology to expand and create an even stronger EOS System that offers new avenues of image capture to meet the needs of increasingly diverse users and to promote the ever-growing photo and video culture.

Of course they are.
They do it right the first time not the first.
They listen to what people really want then make the UI correct.
Yes there have been some mistakes but they don't keep reissuing the same stupid camera updated with the same old and then new stupid mistakes still there like idiot and confusing menus.
We want to take photos not fiddle with the camera and menus.
They know what people really want and it isn't 1/2 stop more DR. It is a superior color science. They listen then study and then do it right. The EF system proved this and now as people are beginning to admit the RF system is another home run.

I have used both, starting with film SLRs years ago. I am perfectly happy with my 5D mk4 and 7D Mk2. I'm not feeling any great need to switch to mirrorless.

Canons simply last. I still have my 300D (new in 2003) and it functions as it did the day I received it, and has never required repairs. You may be able to pick apart some Canon features, but that is no different from any brand and/or model. They are all good if they serve the photographer for the job at hand, whatever the brand.

That would be an unexpected result for an entry-level full-frame mirrorless body, depending on which Nikon rumors you follow ...

It has already been said here, you can take good pictures with most any of today's DSLRs. However, it is easier to take great pictures with a camera that is easiest for you to use. For me it has always been Nikon. I started with the Nikon FE. I loved the metering system. My pictures just always seemed to come out right. At the time Canon was advertising the AE-1 very heavily and almost persuaded me. However, everyone that I asked who knew cameras said to buy Nikon if I could afford to do so.

The only wedding I ever shot was a couple who said that if I didn't that they would have no pictures so I caved in. I borrowed a Canon AE-1 from another friend so that I could shoot with 2 cameras. Probably because I had different film in each camera. The pictures came out good but the Canon drove me nuts because everything was backwards from my Nikon. I was so thankful that I had bought Nikon.

I like the feel and handling of my Nikons. I love Nikon's metering systems.

But it is kind of like Kodachrome. I loved Kodachrome. I thought the vibrant colors were amazing and that nothing else came close. However, there were/are those who didn't/don't like Kodachrome. We each like what works best for us. For me it is eaiser to take great pictures with Nikon. I won't be changing.

I have been a Canon user since the early days. When a company makes changes, we should welcome what is new and exciting.

We are all entitled to our opinion. If you a comfortable with change then welcome it. If not, just continue to create great captures.
