Does she have a preference? If not, your best bet is to take her to a store that sells these cameras so she can hold each of them in her hands. If you have a good camera store, they’ll be able to provide some guidance. Regardless of specs, the camera needs to be one she wants to use.

If you decide to go Canon go to either T6i or T7i much better specs.

One may feel more comfortable to use and work the controls.

You are comparing two different brands and asking which one is better. I can tell you that an experienced photographer will do marvels with either one.
If you could take your daughter, assuming she has some experience using cameras to the camera store and letting her decide what she wants that could be a great idea. She can have both cameras in hand and possibly test them just to see which one fits her hands better and makes her feel more comfortable.
Good luck!

"Industry Standard"? I doubt it, most prevalent? probably.

Actually it is neither. Definitely not industry standard and Canon's user base is several times the size of Nikon, so it is not even close to being the most prevalent.

I have been looking it getting my daughter a Nikon D5600 there is a nice bundle or the Canon T6 EOS just not sure which is better. Can anyone give advice

It would be helpful to know what kind of subjects are of interest to your daughter and what kind of budget you are working with.

Not knowing your daughter I would take her to a camera store and let her look and handle the cameras to find one that fits her (hand and controls) comfortably.
A camera no mater how nice or good it is will not keep her interest.

Pick them up look at the build quality, how it feels in your hand, the menus and pick the one that makes more sense to you. I'm a Canon lifer but Nikon makes good cameras as well. My only issue is the menu system and setting's terminology in the Nikon is more confusing to me.

The T6i is more comparable to the Nikon you identify. Personally as a Canon shooter, I find the controls more comfortable, the lenses better and more available from 3rd parties. I also see a color difference in the Nikon sensors but that can be tweaked so the 2 are very close if not the same.

My suggestion is to look at the controls and see which one is the most logical and feels more intuitive.

I had been using a Canon PowerShot IS ("advanced point-and-shoot") for years, so I went with Canon for my first DSLR about 3 months ago. The similar interfaces made for a quicker learning curve, so if your daughter has been using a smaller camera by either Canon or Nikon, stick with the brand. Using the camera is what matters!

I am on a tight retiree budget - so I went on the Canon website, bought refurbished, comes direct from Canon with a one year warranty. Got the Rebel T6i with 18-55 mm (sunsets! and scenery) and 55-250 mm lenses (birding, people), still learning how to use them but having a ball.

I believe Nikon glass is the industry standard. Love their glass. Now having said that I believe that you would be better off to buy say the 5600 and an 18-200 mm lens Much more versatile and will last a beginner much longer before needing or wanting something else. I also think the cannon would be a good choice.

When I was shopping from my 1st DSLR camera, after having a Nikon N65 Film camera, I decided to stay with Nikon, so as a Beginner to DSLR Photography and doing my investigations I decided on a Used Nikon D3300 ( a financial consideration.) and the Nikon D3300 DX (crop-sensor) camera because it got very good reviews. I presently have 4 Nikon Lens, 35mm Prime, 50mm Prime, 55-200mm, 18-140mm. I have been researching my next Nikon upgrade camera and am seriously considering the Nikon D5600 for a variety of positive reasons. Still a "Crop Sensor", which as a beginner will stay with for the present time.
I really cannot provide any + or - advice or recommendations on any Canon Cameras, due to not having any hands on experience with them.
Yes, I too would recommend considering a "Nikon Refurbished" D5600 DSLR Camera too.

Find a store that has examples of both models and take your daughter and let her decide. How it feels in her hand, which has a menu that is more "comfortable" to read, etc. That way she will get the camera she wants and will use.

Lots of answers and we each have a point. My suggestion depends on whether or not she knows you're going to get it for her or not. If she does, the first thing we almost all tell people to do when considering different cameras--each with good points--is to go into a photo store and let her handle each camera. Sometimes this makes all the difference in the world (once I did this I was easily able to decide between the two and I never regretted it). My other point is I agree with getting her the 18-200 lens as she can then learn a variety of photography styles and eventually know what she likes to photograph. Good luck and hope she enjoys it.

Cora-Belle … there's no bias, reflected in this response, as I use both brands, and respect each, accordingly. However, something nobody has yet pointed out to you is this - you are comparing an advanced or intermediate DX camera with a rank beginner Canon very basic DSLR. Also, the Nikon D5600 is a current crop-sensor model, with a fully-articulating touch screen, and the T6 has NEITHER feature. Also, it doesn't have an automatic-sensor cleaning mechanism, so, when it comes time to clean it - your daughter will either have to figure out how to do it, herself - or - send it back to Canon, for a cleaning. Also, the Canon EOS Rebel T6 has now been replaced by the T7. So, the bundle you are seeing is on an older model, AND one which is pretty much BASIC, and in no way - a comparison to the Nikon D5600 - which is a pretty advanced camera. A fairer comparison between the T6 and a Nikon - would be the D3500, or prior D3400. However, neither of THESE models have Auto-Sensor Clean, either. You'd have to go back to the D3300 to have that feature. Also, none of the D3000 series have the F-A Touch Screen. Now, then - to compare apples with apples - the comparable DSLR in Canon's line-up to the D5600 - would be the EOS Rebel T7i - note the "i" appendix - this means "intelligent" which applies to not only the auto-sensor clean, but also to the computer technology inside - which is head and shoulders above the ones without the "i" designation. Go look at the CanonUSA web-site. You may be able to find the older EOS Rebel T6i (or T6s - same but with the top screen) at a significant discount over the newer T7. Also, take a look at any deals which might be available on the EOS Rebel SL2 - another beginner model - but with the added benefit of the F-A Touch Screen, which the Basic models lack. This model is also available in white. And, red versions of the T7 and T6 CAN be purchased, but only, directly - from Canon. The red Nikon D5500 (prior model to the D5600) can be purchased, still - look around. But, unfortunately - the Nikon D5600 was never offered in red. However, the D3000 series are ALL available in red. Happy Hunting! And, whatever you should choose for your daughter - I wish both you, and she - the best with it!
