My younger grandson is in the 7th/8th grade jazz band. I gave him my 1951 (Bronx NY) Bach Stradivarius trumpet after having it professionally cleaned. Last Friday, the band entered a jazz band competition. They won the Gold award for best band and awarded best trumpet solo (not him), best trombone and rhythm sections. I cannot adequately express the joy I felt when he texted me about the competition. They are really good - I saw them perform at the winter concert last Feb.

He also had his head shaved, for the 9th consecutive year, at the St. Baldrick's Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research Charity. He received a special award for raising over $4000 this year and $35,000+ over the nine years of participation.

Here are a few photos from getting his head shaved this year. I'm so proud of him. He's also on a path to become an Eagle Scout and will play lacrosse this year. He is busy!! He's really a "neat" kid!! Credit to his Mom (my daughter) & Dad. His Dad has his head shaved every year too and helps organize the fundraiser as does my daughter. I included a photo of Dad.
Thanks for viewing.

That will never happen, Stan. I did have my head shaved in 2013. No one seemed to notice. I never understood why

Someone's raising them right. Props to your SiL and Grandson.

By the way, your Son in Law could pass for me at that age - right down to the more extensive beard that I wore back then, in the days when there was still pepper among the salt.

Handsome devil...

Andy

Looks more like a crew cut. I think I would have said "sheared" not "shaved". I was expecting to see a bald kid. LOL

Grandpa isn’t too proud or anything like that, naah. 😊 Great story and clearly a great kid. Besides you Mark, who is his biggest influence as a trumpet player?

Love to see kids like him! Too many kids aren't doing much of anything. And you have one that has learned giving back to the community in his scouting activities and charity events. Plus has other varied interests like music and lacrosse. Lacrosse is an awesome sport. Just be prepared for a lot of whacking each other with sticks...which is why my son wanted to play. My daughter plays but girls rules don't allow whacking with sticks, much to her dismay. Thanks for sharing your awesome grandson with us! And thanks to his great parents for making a great kid!
