Moon Help 4

Those who have been following my progress, and I have had many helpful thoughts, here is last nights photo. Yesterday Robert Bailey responded to my last post, with among his comments, that my image was flipped. That comment brought me pause, I hadn't really been keeping track of where the features were from one night to the next. I had already taken last nights photo when I read Roberts comment, so went out with my binoculars for a look. The last photo posted, last night's, is exactly the way it was here, at 2315. By the way, my very first photo, which should be obvious, got posted second instead of first, otherwise they are in sequential order, beginning with the first decent pic on March 12th.

I began with my D 850 and 420mm, hand held. Moving onto the same set up on a tripod. Then to my Swarovski ATX 95, with their 30mm fixed Nikon adaptor, first on my D 750, the last 4 with my D 850. That setup does seem to be the answer for the best pic.

Anyway, back to Roberts comment. My images are exactly as the moon was seen by me, and as you can see, it appears the moon is rotating. I also noted several posts ago, from someone else who had shot the moon the same night, but from Montana, that they had a different view than mine.

So, if you are still with me, just wondering if anyone had any knowledge about these observations, and as always, suggestions for improvement.

Thanks for your time.

Well they are not as clear as they should be ...are you tripoding and using mirror up and electronic shutter ..
You may have focus issues as you are using the recommended manual mode ...believe me you can use AF quite well with the bright moon .. I see from the exit data you are shooting @ 05am - 6am ish .. which means you are shooting through a lot of atmosphere vs shooting the moon directly overhead ...

I can see you are at ISO 64 - 100-250 .. that’s ok .. I don’t have any f/stop info so I can’t say anything about that ....and finally all moon shots need Post Editing for sharpness and cropping ....

I can say .., you are getting close ....

I am shooting when the moon is clear. And I’m awake. I did shoot the moon straight above, the half moon pic. Unbelievably difficult for me. I’m using the 30mm Swarovski adapter, fixed aperture. My choices are shutter speed and ISO. At minimal scope range, it is equal to a 1300mm lens. As you zoom in, even with the brightness of the moon, the light reaching the sensor is cut dramatically. Lots of compromises.

Thanks for the feedback.
