My ancestors taught school to the indians at the San Juan Bautista Mission, well before California became a State in 1850. This Mission holds a special place in my heart, as many of my ancestors were baptized, married, and buried here.
I have attended mass here many times.
Because of the special meaning that this Mission has for me, I wanted to create a special piece of art that expresses what my mind's eye and heart sees, although not real to others, my artistic vision attempts to add emotion, through certain symbolic additions, changes and beautifications.
Since many UHH members have never had the chance to actually visit and see this Mission, I have also included in the second image the actual piece of film from which my final art piece evolved.
As an additional historical side note, much of the movie "Vertigo", with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novack was filmed at this Mission. The bell tower featured in the movie was not original to the Mission, and sometime after the movie was made, an earthquake eliminated the bell tower, which was never replaced mainly because it was never part of the original Mission.

I love both.
Well I certainly thank you for your comment. Maybe I need to be more specific. . .the original image has a lovely oil stained asphalt parking area, while my more artistic vision has a much more pleasing reflecting pool.
I love your artistic portrayal of the Mission. and having your family history that is attached gives more meaning to the structure. Very nicely done. Sorry I'm late to the party, I don't always get the daily Hog for some reason and have to search frequently.

Once again, I offer my sincere thanks for your most kind comments. Maybe it is time to add another from this series?
