The Mute Swans had to break a hole in the ice so they could forage on the bottom for food. Tough life but they worked thru their problems. Really was interesting to watch their long necks swinging around under the ice.

Unique shots. Do they hang around all winter?

They have been around for quite a few years now. They raise a new family every year. In 2012, 5 of the 8 chicks made it. They will be together for several more weeks until the parents start their new family. Then the youngsters will leave.
