An interview with boomboom

First of all let me say I am truly honored to have accomplished this. I feel very humbled by the votes I received from some really talented people. The pictures were just awesome.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been taking pictures since I retired about 12 years ago.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have had no formal training and just pick up bits and pieces form the school of hard knocks and from the UHH forum. I take mostly nature photos and a lot of photos of my grandkids.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I volunteer for our local Metro Parks in Summit County, Ohio. I usually am found hiking most every day and happen to run across this tree with two holes in it. I noticed something moving and after a second look saw this owl in the top hole sunning himself. It was a real shock to see the screech owl. I had never seen one in the wild before.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I use a Canon 40D and that day I had the Canon 70-200 with a doubler on it. I was using a monopod with this lens.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
If I could choose something to change, I probably would have used my 100/400mm Canon lens. The doubler on the 70-200 is a little tricky to use.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If it wasn't for photography, I'm not sure what my direction would be. I would still volunteer with the parks and maybe help others do photography such as my grandchildren.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have no web site with my pictures. The only other place my photos appear is in the parks publications and I have some pictures for sale at a local bird store. Just as a hobby not a living. Good thing. I would starve.

Once again, thanks for making it possible for everyone to showcase their works. Jerry

Four FABULOUS photographs, I can't think of anything else to say. It must have been a complete nightmare picking the winner.
Congratulations to all who entered and to St3v3M

An interview with Skew

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been interested in photography for about 20 years, with my children being what got me started... Just was never happy with the stiff, posed look of portraits.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
My only training has been trial and error and reading as much as I can. Most of my work is nature, animal, landscape photography.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The only reason I happened to be there was because I was completely lost in the woods after hiking for many hours. I just sat down to rest for a few minutes... The rest of the story is in the picture.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
This picture was taken with a canon 60D with an 18/200 lens.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
My boxer, who is my constant hiking companion didn't like him as much as I did and could have probably gotten a little closer if I hadn't had her with me that day.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Hiking and photography provides me much needed distraction from my work at a very busy 911 center on the east coast and can't imagine doing anything else.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Right now there is no place to view my work but a website might be in the future... As always time seems to be my enemy!

An interview with clicktime

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been working on photography since high school but only seriously for five years with digital.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have been studying on my own for five years with books from Brian Peters,Michael Freeman and our own Roger Hicks. I have watched 100s of hours of video from Adorama and Adobe TV. I joined a couple photography clubs and I'm even vice president of one now. I love photography and the people that are into it. Of course the training we get from UHH tops all the others. I haven't settled on any one field of photography because I like them all.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The beauty of the morning sky in the desert this year has been amazing, and I have been trying to capture the colors as accuratly as possible.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 5D-ii with a 24-105L series lens, tripod and remote trigger release.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No, I finally got the shot with all the colors I saw.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Second on my list is travel. I have experience in scuba diving which is my other hobby. I would love to perfect my skills in under water photography, as it is an amazing world not so many people get to see.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Yes click on the link to check out my website http://clicktimephotography.artistwebsites.com.

I usually hang out in the macro forum on UHH. Thanks for voting for my shot!

An interview with rosiesq

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
When I first got married, and had animals.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No training, I played with an old Zenith, it was all I could afford years ago, then when we took the caravan to Europe bought a Canon. Favourite things to photograph are animals, flora and fauna. We have a meadow outside the house, and a paddock for the horses, and get lots of visitors!

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Just before Christmas last year, my daughter rang to say they couldn't get out, as we had a Land Rover we went over. This was the view from halfway down her lane. I was struck by the absence of colour, the stillness, the peace, the quietness, and the almost ethereal beauty of it.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Have a Nikon D50, and have just got a Nikon D90. No special set-up, just one of those days, I guess.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I've booked a photography course, to learn lots more about the why's and how's.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I have animals, and I'm a crafter, but my camera goes everywhere with me.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Could put some photos on Ugly Hedgehog, couldn't I!
Many thanks to you all. Rosie x

Yes click on the link to check out my website http://clicktimephotography.artistwebsites.com.

FYI - you need to take the period of out of the end of your website for it to work with a click.I only mention it because I wouldn't want anyone to miss seeing your website and your amazing photos of the desert skies (night, angry and blue!!) I never had a desire to see the desert but now it is on my bucket list!
