Forever Memories - This type of memory sticks like glue in the hearts and souls of families left behind. I travel about 300 miles one way to see my daughters and have started to notice and photograph these highway memorials. This particular cross is fenced in and marked "Vacura 3/12/76", so this family has kept this marker up for close to 40 years now. On this trip there are two fresh wreaths (one on each side of the cross) apparently in celebration of Christmas. The memorials do leave an impression on me and I start to look for each of them as I drive to and from my destinations.

An interview with Bushpilot

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I'm 69 years old, I started to be seriously interested in photography when I was about 13.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Other than some courses in high school no formal training.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I like honey and it just seemed to be the most stick substance at hand.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used a tripod mounted Canon 5D MK II with the 24-15mm F4 L lens, a measuring spoon was held in a clamp attached to a tabletop tripod and honey was placed in the spoon to slowly drip out. A 300 watt tungsten light provided the lighting.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I would maybe try some other sticky substances, but it was getting close to supper time and I needed the dining room table.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If not photography, for an artistic hobby I would probably do oil painting.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have online photo galleries at http://www.pbase.com/sleddog

An interview with Linda From Maine

This is just delightful! Thanks so much to UHH members. I just joined in November and have been enjoying the discussions and the photography very much.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I got my first SLR in the mid-80's, then discovered the art of photography ("painting with light" when I took a year-long black and white class, with darkroom, in 1989 at a community college, and later a photo history class. That was my only formal training.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I don't remember what first drew me to photography specifically; however, I had family members who were painters and I took various art classes in high school for fun.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Mostly I photograph nature: landscapes or close-ups of plants, trees, flowers, birds and other animals. I prefer conditions where the light plays a big part, such as backlit, silhouettes, shadows, the golden hour, clearing fog and sun after an ice storm.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
As for my bicycle parts, I was using a Fuji Finepix S3300 on a very frigid morning when everything was covered in hoar frost. A friend told me she'd seen a display of 4 bicycles mounted on a fence at a repair shop, so off we went to check it out.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
The technical quality of my results leaves a lot to be desired, especially since with that Fuji, I had no control over depth of field with my longer views. But I loved that each bike was painted a different, bright color, with every square inch covered in frost; even the flat gray light of that moment enhanced the subject matter. My close-up (contest-winning shot) was my favorite for its pleasing curved shapes and the color, with the sticky stuff being a bonus!

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I don't have a website, but will periodically share my favorite photos here. I look forward to continuing to learn and be inspired by all of you! Like several members replied to "Why do you take pictures?" - because it allows me to appreciate the beauty of the natural world every day and brings me great joy!

THANKS AGAIN
Linda

An interview with Grammarazzi

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have always loved to look at professional photography but even though I would take pictures often, I didn't give the process of how to get a good photo much thought until I got my first grandchild about 8 years ago.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I do not have any formal training and still consider myself a novice. Just this year I purchased a Canon 60D (hoping for divine intervention maybe?) and I still have not even been all the way through the manual. I have to find time to do that soon because the more I learn the camera, the more I know I can do better and better.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I have noticed this memorial several times over several years while driving past it. This time there was a new wreath on the cross, the day was cold and snowy and there was a lonely ambience in the light of the day. At first I drove past the marker and then realized I wanted a closer look at it so I turned around and stopped. It wasn't until I read the marker and saw the date of death that I realized the devotion entailed in keeping the memorial up for all these years. It was then that I thought this was what I wanted to present for our Sticky Stuff contest.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used my Canon 60D with no special set up.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes, I would know my camera better and what goes into taking an excellent photo. I think I am learning so much from this forum and I thank you all for that.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I am a recently retired accounting type person, so photography is one of my creative outlets. It is actually turning into a passion.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
At this time, I do not have a place that my photos can be seen. I am still a little shy about showing them off thinking and knowing I should be doing better shots. I consider putting some on our forum for critque - but that scares me!

An interview with dhusky

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have just started to get back into photography about 6 months ago. I had quite an interest when I was younger about 25 years ago and have always wanted to get back into it. After a trip this summer I came home and decided to purchase a used camera and see if the love was still there. I really do enjoy it and hope to continue by taking some courses on how use my camera and lenses.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have had no training and have a love for scenery shots as well as the grand children.lol

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
As for the winning shot, when my grand daughter looked at me and gave me that smile I couldn't resist.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used the Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT with a 18-55 lens.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Would not change anything.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If I couldn't do photography I would build furniture.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have not posted any of work anywhere other then on FB.
