Hello everyone. I'm Bethany, love taking photos but I just don't remember how to work a camera. I took photography classes in High school but that was well over 14 years. Point and shoot camera are nice but they just don't seem to capture the true beauty in some pictures and that's why I want/need to re-learn. My husband bought me the Nikon CoolPix P500. It's not the real custom type camera I've always warned (ya know with the interchangeable lenses and flashes) but its an awesome camera. So I hope I can learn from some of you on this site.
Thank you and Happy Holidays
Bethany.
Welcome Ms Bethany. A DSLR is just a few photos away for you. Share when you got 'em

Hi nice to see a new face your camera will do for now we all started some place put some of you snaps on the site for us to see welcome
Your P500 will give you a good start if you just start exploring it and what it can do. Then if you get to where you NEED something beyond you will be prepared for upgrading.
Make sure you go out and look for the DETAILED manual either on the cd that came with the camera or on the internet at Nikon or other places because it gives more information than the printed one that came with the camera.
shortcourses.com also has very good "manuals" and guides for many different cameras in PDF format at reasonable prices.
Let us see how you are doing!! POST LOTS OF PICS!!

Hi Bethany. That is not a bad camera to learn on. I got one for the wife, she didn't like it because it would fit in her purse.:) The son has it now and is getting some great shots out of it. Just take your time and play. We are all here for you when you need help.

Hi Bethany, If your are thinking of upgrading to a DSLR, take a look at some of the factory refurbished models. They are sold on the factory sites, or in online stores like B&H Photo, in New York City. There are also a lot of used or refurbished lenses available too. You can also find excellent used gear, like a Canon 50D with all the basic lenses for less than $800.(not mine though)The 50D is now out of production, but it has a lot of the bells and whistles found on the newer cameras, except it will not shoot video. You will learn a lot using something like the 50D. Don't think I'm pushing Canon, I'm not. Just that I use Canon products, and am comfortable with Canon products.
Good Luck, post often, ask if you don't know.

Hi Bethany. This is a good place to learn.
Welcome. Great photography is more about your vision than the equipment.
