Missed a great shot, had no time to change the speed. Wonder if I will ever get another chance for this hawk.

Let's hope so. Let's hope that a better version has a bit less processing, to avoid the halo of over-sharpening around the subject. You were there, just get there again with the right lens and exposure settings and shooting technique.

Yep! It's one of those close but no cigar shots. I've had a bunch of them, and I hate them!! But you just have to keep at it! It will come! It just makes it that much sweeter when you DO catch everything just right!!

I have none of them. Deleting, forgetting, and moving on with a better approach and preparation.

Notice I said, "had" NOT "have". Deleting, forgetting, and moving on with a better approach and preparation. Why didn't I think of that??

Do you need a 1000 reminders? I learn enough between the instant I see the failure and the time it takes to lift my finger from pressing <Delete>.

I'm a bit slow these days. Sometimes I might need 1001 reminders. Just remember, your time is coming!
Are you sure you learn enough though? Show me yours and I'll show you mine. I have an overhead Red Tailed Hawk posted from Saguaro National Park around the middle of April that would blow your socks off if you care to look it up. And a few more that I would have to go back and find a date for.
Update: March 13 actually.
Where's yours?
Of course, mine was done with a mirrored camera (D850) so it can't possibly be a good as one of yours.

Yep! Never make any progress if not! Often, I have to learn more than once before I really get it! Learning to shoot BIFs was one of the most difficult and longest efforts that I have ever attempted in photography. Not to say that I'm an expert and no longer blow it, of course. But I'm getting a lot more keepers these days!
Check out my photo from March 13th in my Saguaro National Park series.

Have you been out in the sun too long? Listing my topics created shows now 29-pages on UHH. Any casual review of just the subjects with 'bird' or 'BIF' in the title will show a frequent subject, even if it's been a year or so since those topics were shared. Ignorance may be a cause, but Ignorance is not an excuse.

Alas, my idea to practice and prepare better was lost in the vague wording and disparagement of the poor processing of a failed image. The BIF subject is demanding; demanding the best technique that comes with research and practice and practice and practice, and luck.

I don't understand what you're saying here, Paul? I gave you a date 13 March. That's less than three months ago. It's the ONLY photo posted for that date! How difficult is that??

And, oh by the way, I can pick and chose what I wish to remain ignorant of, no guidance needed from you, or anyone else! How about you?

OK guys! We all take good shots and we all take bad shots. Some of us are quick on the delete key some keep the almost shots until we get a better one.

Peter Joseph maned up and posted a shot he almost got. I could be wrong but I took the post as a subtle reminder to all of us to pay attention while out in the field or you too may miss that 1 in 1000 shot.
