Hi,
I'd like to know what kind of lenses I can use for the canon EOS Rebel T3I that can photograph from very far & close. I'm going to photograph animals, landscape, people, objects like buildings, mountains, flowers, trees, etc.
Thanks. Maria.

First, I advise everyone to buy only the best lenses. In Canon that is the L series. They are expensive, but perform extremely well. The single lens that will cover most situations is the 28-300 mm, F3.5 - 5.6 IS. IS stands for image stabilized. This lens does nearly everything reasonably well, from nearly wide angle to long telephoto. It is called the ideal tourist lens, because it is so diverse. Don't let its failure to open to F2.8 fool you. You will obtain very sharp, well exposed photos with this work horse. Unless you have professional photographic needs you may not need another lens. One issue that is true for much of the good equipment; the lens is heavy.

Thank you so much. I will be purchasing the lens.
There are many options with the T3i. There are not only Canon but many very good lens from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina etc. Part of the fun of the camera you have will be browsing over the choices available to you. Besides the many choices of lens is the prices that can fit just about every budget. One that comes to mind for your camera is the Canon 55-250mm. Used in nice condition about 150.00. A solid lens at a good price. Since I have the same camera I can speak from some experience. You made a good choice of camera, now have some fun.
I just recently bought a T3i and on this subject has anyone with the camera bought/used any of their macro lens? I really enjoy macro photography and want to make sure before I drop $300-400 on a lens it is a good deal.

If it were me,I would try to buy a used lens from someone on one of the forums. Usually the members try to be honest in their condition descriptions. They have a vested interest in doing so, their reputations. The problem I have with buying used lens is that the popular ones don't lose their value much. In those cases I normally go ahead and buy a new one. The upside is if you decided to sell a really nice used lens you don't take much of a hit. I haven't bought on ebay. The auction thing gets people excited and that drives the prices up, so I never really see a bargain there. Plus I'm not as comfortable buying there as much as on the forums.
Good advice, I was a bit apprehensive about buying used but buying from someone on the forums with the same passion would ease that anxiety.
