A bit too much centering, perhaps...

This image would likely be a bit better if it were to more closely follow the Rule of Thirds. The important thing is the cracked, broken part of the tree. Having the extra trunk does not add to the observer's information, thus placing the image's centerpiece perhaps more to the left and perhaps tilting up, following the Rule of Thirds, would reveal more lake, create more of an isolationist feel, and thus more power to the visual intent.

Just three plus decades as a photo editor chiming in.

I agree with PhotoArtsLa...more rule-of-thirds. No offense here, but it looks as tho a child may have taken the photo because the broken trunk is in the very-center. Of course sometimes it is appropriate to disobey 'thirds' rule, but in this case, and since you asked...ditto to PhotoArtsLa comment! Now, more of your photos, please!

You guys are probably right but then we couldn't see the odd looking trunk on the left side which I find interesting. I like it.

Well OK...and who is to say? Regarding the odd looking 2nd trunk --- two photos instead of one? Keep-on-shooting!

I would like to address the exposure. The top right corner of the picture is very bright, detracting from the beauty of the picture - in color and black and white version. Have you tried bringing it down a notch? Just a thought.

A lower POV showing more lake, a pororizing filter to help remove the hot spot in the upper right while keeping the waters reflective properties.
But I do like this shot anyway you do it... It's your shot after all.

How about a vertical orientation, and shooting down the length of the trunk. The chewed part in the lower third of the picture, with the trunk receding into the background.

Much depends upon what is around the subject. Sometimes you want a shot, but the surroundings are just too unsuitable for a good shot. In that case, just call it a record shot, or come back after dark and try a little light painting.

Lower pov for sure. Less trunk and more water to tell more of the story. And perhaps some fill flash on the trunk to make it more interesting.

Sorry it took so long...things just got in the way! Hope it is not too late for you to see this. I took the liberty to download your image to illustrate what I was referring to about flipping horizontally...
