A few weeks ago I had time for a short trip out West and spent a day in each of the above national parks hiking. All 3 were so beautiful, each in their own way. All told, I hiked 36 miles in those 3 days and put about 1000 miles on the rental car. I also was fortunate enough to get chosen for a permit to hike Angels Landing in Zion, which was terrifying.

In my lifetime I have been fortunate to have visited 5 continents and over 20 different countries - all fascinating and beautiful but NONE of them compare to the magnificence of our own national parks. My favorites are Yellowstone, Zion, Arches, and of course, the Grand Canyon. The beauty, combined with the up close experience with animals, is breathtaking.

They should be on everyone's short list of places to visit.

I'm pretty widely travelled as well, and I agree. There are some beautiful places in the world! But none of them beat the National Parks, especially of the western U.S.!

You climb up a sliver of a mountain holding on to a chain to prevent falling to your death. Google some images of it.

When did they start a permit for Angles Landing or has it been that way for a while? Seems all the parks and good stuff are now requiring entry time or permits etc. Pretty soon reservations will be made not months but years in advance. Rocky Mountain Nat. Park is ridiculous to get a camp spot and a timed entry.

Not sure when they started but relatively recently. In Zion, you need a permit to hike Angels Landing and The Narrows.
The parks are ridiculously crowded from June-September.
