Hi all, I'm guessing I'm headed toward sending my camera out for repair, but I thought I'd check with you all to see if there may be something I'm overlooking.
This past weekend, while using my A7RIV, the mode dial got stuck. While it's normally set to M, I decided to use A while photographing some groups, and when I tried changing it back to M, the dial wouldn't move.
The center lock button has no effect, and the strange thing is, the next time I picked up the camera, it was fine, but now it's locked again.
I've had the camera for a while now, and haven't had this problem, so I'm guessing it's just time for a repair, but if there's any input from anyone with a similar experience, I welcome any advice. By the way, the camera has never been dropped. Thanks.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this. A few years ago the shutter button on my ex D7100 stuck. It would move slightly and felt strange but wouldn't actuate the shutter. I used a round wooden toothpick to drop a very tiny drop of sewing machine oil into the space around the shutter button. I waited overnight and it worked for another three years before I donated it to my son when I updated to a D500!
Please note that I'm not recommending this to you!
I would verify if the center lock button needs to be depressed before you can turn from A to M. If you're supposed to press it when changing mode then the lock may be not working correctly.

OK, I think old age has finally set in. I'm not sure, and I'll have to check again later, but this morning, when I tried it, and held the button down, while turning the knob, it worked. I think I was treating that dial like the exposure compensation dial, which has a center button that will click into place to lock and unlock. I guess this is what happens when you don't use that dial often, at least that's what I'm telling myself.
Thanks for your responses, and I'll check back in if that's not the solution.

On my Sonys you must hold down the button while dialing (unlike the toggle type buttons on e.g. Olympus/Lumix).

I own no Sony and I didn't check out the manual but that is what I thought.

Dont feel bad, that difference between the mode dial button action and the EC dial button action has been a pain for many others, even the most veteran Sony pros of all ages.
Cheers and best to you

EC dials are such a waste of space. A reassignable button will do (then I can assign it to something more useful).

That camera has alternative buttons up the wazoo...no need to.

I personally find an EC button useful for EC. I’m not a fan of the dial in my RX10MIV because it’s too easy to move it accidentally.

The EC dial is on the far right. I added red dots that align at +/-0 EC, easy to check on by a user behind the camera.

IMO Sony shouldn't have added that center button. I still own and sometimes use the original A7R along with the A7R111 and I have never accidentally moved the mode dial.

Some cameras have the lock button, and some do not. So I paint the buttons as a reminder to me to use it when necessary.
