Burning question: to all the experts.
I'm a casual hobbyist.
I have the 2 cameras: The Alpha 6000 is fitted with a 18 - 135 and the RX 100VI.
An upcoming trip to India (long awaited), New Delhi, Amritsar - pilgrimage and Jaipur.
Wife opts for the RX and I tend to agree. But hate to NOT take the A6000. Take both?
Thoughts opinions?
TIA!
Ken

Take both. You can use the A 6000 and your wife can use the RX 100VI.

Cameras are machines. Machines break. If this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, by all means, take both cameras. If travel to India is something you do frequently, you could chance it with one camera. Take extra SD cards and at least 4 batteries for each camera. Since the a6000 will be for backup, just take one lens that will cover a large range either the 18-135 or the 55-200. The a6000 and one lens are small enough to put in a pouch and wear it on your belt. When you go wandering about, take both cameras. A dropped or broken camera isn't what will happen in your hotel room.

Thank you sir!
I have a MS Surface to download pics taken during the day and will need that to do other work as well - so no need to take additional SD cards. In addition have 1 additional battery for each camera.
I feel better taking both cameras.
Thank you for your advice!

Another vote for taking both. The a6000 with the 18-135mm is a nice and compact combo, and the RX 100 is tiny. I always take two cameras on trips like that. On a trip to Ecuador ten years ago my charger and spare battery for my DSLR were stolen. So I shot the rest of my trip with my point-and-shoot, with good results.

I agree that you should absolutely take both cameras. As good as cell phones are, you can't beat the control and flexibility of a zoom lense.
I have a question for you. Which camera gives you the better IQ? I have a similar problem facing me. I have a NEX-6 with 2 kit lenses and want to trade them in for an 18-135. My back up is a lumix bridge . Are you happy with the IQ of the 135?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Take both! A man with only one camera can suddenly become a man with no camera. Been there, dropped a Nikon on the concrete, no photos of my trip to Watkins Glen. Bah Humbug!

Ken, my experience with Sony batteries is that they tend to lose a lot of their power after a few years. FWIW I recommend you take a second back up with you so that you always have 2 batteries to use while one is back in the hotel charging or two with you just in case. In the past I forgot to charge my batteries overnight and was very happy for the extra one.

The two cameras combined take up so little room, I would take both. Problem solved.

Take both! You will need a back up anyway. But if I need to choose only one, will go for the A6000 - 18-135mm combo for sure.

And yet another vote for both. zug55 is spot on imho. If I were traveling, I'd take the a6000 with 18-135mm lens and let my wife shoot the RX100. The latter is just too small for my hands, but it will be good insurance to have both cameras. If you take both, they will work flawlessly; if you just take one, it will break or be stolen. That's just the way life works.

I too have the a6000, but not the RX100. I use the a6000 for hiking so that if I lose the camera I'm more upset about the lost images than the camera itself.

The a6000 has a larger sensor (aps-c vs 1") so you'll get better low light performance over the RX. However, the RX has IS and better autofocus performance. The a6000 technology is 5 years older that the RX.

For a comparison:

However, in practical use, both will take good images and both are extremely lightweight. So take both, one for you and one for your wife. If nothing else, one can serve as a backup if the other is lost/damaged or stolen.
