What was before the Big Bang? If there was no space or time during that moment, how did everything suddenly appear out of nowhere in an instant?

The Big Bang did not emerge from nothing but from singularity that encompasses everything within a density such that it equals zero. We have not yet discovered the precise how, but we have observed the effects.
The observations of the Hubble and JWST have provided extensive data as to the early origins of the universe which continue to challenge what we think we know and thought we knew.

Who said there was no space? It was just empty. However, time is a human construct.

"Time" is what keeps everything from happening all at once.

There's no such thing as 'nothing' in the universe.

Just undiscovered country.

This is a dark matter universe...what we consider to be the universe...is but a film of elements lying in a vast ocean of dark matter...insignificant statistically to the universe...an afterthought...side effect.

We are the first generations of mankind to understand...something.
We are observers...not participants.
We are the first to actually know that as a culture...

Be glad...at least you know.
None of your ancestors knew...the information simply wasn't obtainable.

No free will...but you get to at least observe something with clarity.

It's a first.

This is a subject I find absolutely fascinating but it is well beyond my comprehension. As you ask, what came BEFORE the Big Bang?

And what is the universe in? Does our universe have a boundary?

What we don't know, we don't know... It seems that everything is cyclical in nature so just from what we know so far it would be possible that our universe had its beginning from the output of an enormous concentration of matter emanating from the output of the backside of a black hole... Maybe there is an endless number of universes. INFINITE is a big word whether referring to material or spiritual... We do know that our universe is expanding at an ever increasing rate and will eventually be a DARK, LIFELESS, COLD place to be. Could this so called dead space be the space that another Big Bang would occupy ? Ah, time for more coffee...

I’ve seen theories that eventually the universe will run out of energy and start slowing down and contracting due to gravity…and after some godawfully long time it will collapse into a really big black hole that then results in another big bang…which means that conceptually we could be on the 3rd big bang or even more…or if one is religious then it could be that the spiritual supreme being created the universe via the Big Bang. Nobody will ever know I guess. I can say that the possibility that absolutely nothing existed before the Big Bang is pretty much impossible…because something can’t spontaneously create itself out of nothing…so something existed before the bang. Material, spiritual…that’s the difference between a theist and an atheist.

Remember, nature hates a vacuum. Stephen Hawking theorized that black holes can evaporate because atoms and anti-atoms can spontaneously appear (without upsetting the balance of nature) near the edge of a black hole and only the anti-atom gets sucked into the black hole. This anti-atom destroys an atom somewhere along the way, lessening the mass of the black hole by 1 atom. Eventually the black hole evaporates.

So... matter can appear spontaneously. Before the Big Bang there were no positives and antis to worry about.

Scientists have been able to recover a sound from two seconds before the Big Bang.

When they played it back, it was: "Uh-oh".

Actually Science has found that it is expanding at an EVER increasing rate... Who knows why... Dark Energy ? At the rate this civilization is progressing we will prob. wink out as being undesirable !

So much we don't know... There is not even consensus on how a signal propagates along a conductor. Schools still teach that electrons flow like water in a pipe.... Even B. Franklin had it wrong about current direction; hence conventional current and electron current. You think the Canonite Nikonite battles are bad here, go on an audio site and start discussing high end cables and signal propagation... Ha Ha
