I see that I typed "brown," instead of "gray." Sorry
Do I have to go out in the garage and take pictures of my gray boxes? I don't think so. Maybe it was dark when I received them, and white looked gray.
My point was that my refurbs came neatly packed in boxes. Now that you mention it, I do remember receiving white boxes, but I'm sure I have gray boxes, too.

Some of them, anyway.
I'm going to be selling some cameras, and if I still have the refurb boxes, I'll check the colors.
Not directed at anyone in particular. I’m sorry I posted what I thought was a discussion inducing, non combative comment. But apparently there is always some subset of the group that can get snarky about almost anything. Don’t worry- I won’t make that mistake ever again. I’ll read; never post again. Let the snark begin!
Jerry, both were purchased directly from Nikon. I was expecting a bit more but have really no experience to justify my expectations. Again, my opinion, I'd hate to get a Z9 or D6 with the camera body the only thing in the shipping box.

Did it come with a battery, charger, and lens caps ? A strap is inexpensive

It's very easy to participate and still ignore the snark. WIn-Win

The 24-120mm f/4 Nikkor zoom that I bought refurbished last summer on big sale from NikonUSA arrived with minimal packaging. Everything was complete and in good order, but was packaged in bubble wrap in a corrugated overpack box. This is a lens that I later had some problems with, but everything got worked out and repaired under warranty. It continues as a great lens in daily service.
As has been noted, "refurbished" products come from a host of different places and get sold for different prices. In my experience, the packaging varies, probably in line with those different origins. I think mine was probably taken back in a warranty exchange, but actually had been "broken" by the original owner. My guess is that when several like it had been accumulated, they were offered in a sale.
In the end (after it was repaired properly for me), it was a good deal all the way around. It's an every day lens for me, Nikon got it off their shelf, I got a great deal (about 65% savings vs. a new one) and NikonUSA got a little money.

I've bought from Nikon but also from Cameta Camera. They were great for refurbs. I'm sorry they shut down. As long as it's a Nikon refurb, you can't go wrong.

I have purchased refurbished lenses from Nikon. Both have come without a box or instructions, and rather shabbily packaged. I'm curious if they do the same with a camera?
I bought one of those refurbished Z9s; it came in the original box in mint condition, including all manuals and accessories, with everything (battery, strap, charger, ...) in little plastic bags. Camera had the lasted firmware, too.
If the box didn't have a large "refurbished" sticker on it, one could have mistaken it for a new one. I have not yet checked the shutter count (yes, I know, electronic shutter, so who cares; still find it interesting to see how much it was used before I got it)

Sounds great. Not sure there is any way to know any electronic shutter count, ever.
Just enjoy it and don't worry.
Cheers and best to you.

Right, and that's going to interesting in the immediate future. So many people like to know the shutter count to get an idea of usage. Even letting the camera number the photos isn't a reliable indicator.
