I am facing the same thing in the near future. My little Tara is now elderly for an Irish Shorty Jack Russell and on one of the same heart meds I take. I have had her since she was 7 weeks and 2 lbs in Jan of 2010. Average for her breed is 13 or so and she is coming up on 14 in Nov. She is above her average life expectancy already.

They just don't last long enough. Best friends are hard to part from. Sorry for your loss, just getting over one myself.
