With my son away for a couple of weeks, the dog is sleeping with me. Unfortunately, he wakes up at 4:15 every day. It's like a horror movie. He wakes me up, I look at the clock, it's 4:15. How does he do that? We go downstairs, I give him his breakfast, and I turn on the computer. He goes back to sleep while I'm still at the keyboard. It's been almost an hour since we came downstairs, so I'll bring him back upstairs.

See you later!

Standard routine; my dogs day start at exactly 5:00, not a minute later and food is the first thing in their minds.

It's like an alarm clock. It's up to you to set the time. Don't feed the dog until a time of your choice. He'll soon adjust.

I love dogs but I have none and know very little about training them.
It would seem to me that because he gets up at 4:15 AM to eat, he’s got you and your son trained.
Perhaps if you tried feeding him a few minutes later every day, you could get him to waken at a later time for his breakfast.
If he eats at other times during the day, you’d probably have to adjust those times accordingly.
My 2¢.

Some might.
We feed our dog dinner about 6 to 6:30 at night. He starts itching for food from around 4:30 on, every day.
I think his watch is broke.

Our routine is to head immediately for the "coffee table" in the computer room. We pour the coffee, and we each give him a treat.

So I guess our dog would fit into the normal range.

On the other hand, suppose he wants to go out to pee? The alternative is to pee in the bed.

Most are usually "Got foods? Can I has some?".

After coming downstairs at 4:30 this morning, he started whining to back up at 5:30. 😁

I get up about 5:00 or 5:30. Penny may get up when I do or she may stay in bed a while longer. When she does get up the first thing she wants to do is go out and take care of business. After coming back in she gets on her pillow that is on the couch in the living room and goes back to sleep while I'm at the dinning table catching up on Ugly Hedgehog. Being a small dog (18 pounds) she is finicky about when and what she eats.
By the way, my avatar is Penny.

The neighbors dog starts to bark at 4.30 every morning, and she takes him for walk at 5 with out her sleepwear. Do I have a reason to complain?

My dog is finicky about what he eats, too. It must either fit into his mouth, or he must be able to chew it up into smaller pieces.
