...what you do, if you're NPS, is order through Nikon. The one time I did that, for the Z9, was pretty dang fast even in the midst of backorders...

Not necessarily. What happens when you cross the Int'l Date Line going east?
Sunday becomes Saturday, or what ever the current day is that you left, while going right. Right?

I make sure I never do that. I don't want to have to change the date on all my electronics.

Was at Tempe Camera at 10:00am today 25. Was told that the camera has not arived yet and they will call as soon as it arrives. I am leaving next friday for Macho Pico Peru and hoping to have the Z8 before I leave. I own the Z9 but hopping the lighter Z8 will allowed me more time in the field taking pictures. Have a second Z9 but never took it out of the box. Ordered the second Z9 and before it arrived I slipped and fell and injured my shoulder and unable to hold the camera up very long. Jerry I will be taking pictures with both the Z9 and Z8 so I will be able to see if there is any difference in quality.

An Adorama email from earlier today said mine is shipping today. I was not on any Nikon priority list.

Did you get your camera directly from Nikon or from an authorized Nikon dealer?
If you got it through an authorized dealer, then what I said is so. I know a top dealer that sells all brands to NPS, CPS and SPS members who have Pro members priority, and he tells me that it is STILL the authorized dealer's final decision whether they supply to the NPS, CPS, SPS members first. The makers do NOT order the dealers to give the cameras to Pro Support members first, and never have, according to this longtime top dealer.
Many dealers will do just that and make sure their NPS, CPS, SPS members get the latest releases first, but not the top dealer I have known for decades. He likes to take good care of his many loyal pro customers, but he also feels obligated to take care of his other, just as loyal customers, that may have pre-ordered BEFORE the NPS, CPS, and SPS members priority list is registered.
I register for SPS member priority for the latest new Sony gear and I am taken care of in the first shipments at this top dealership, but I may not be the very first customer's order to get filled, but that doesn't matter to me as I do get it in the first few days of release. I am also a former longtime member of NPS and CPS.
