My Grandson (age 7) and I spent the better part of this past week at an RV resort. On one of his trips to the mini-mart he bought him and I a couple of "Tonka" toys. He presented me with the little plastic box it came in and said "Open it Pop. I bought you a Tonka toy."

To my surprise it really is a miniature Tonka. I had never seen one before. He saw it and bought it for my miniature car collection of which I will proudly display it.

I promised him I would take pictures of it. So with that said I thought I would share with this group.

The photos are taken with a Nikon Z9, FTZ adaptor, and AF-S Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 E ED VR, two LED umbrellas with diffusers, and SB800 flash and Gary Fong diffuser. Hand held.

Hey, where is my box of miniatures... I think I gave them away... but enjoyed them when young... then along came slot cars... and abandon stores that were turned into multi raceways...

Oh how I long for those days. We had a back yard with plenty of dirt to move with our "miniatures". We had Matchbox toys and would spend hours on end moving earth and making machinery noises. Weren't allowed back into the house until we undressed out of our dirty clothes inside the back door by the washing machine. As we grew up then came Conejo Valley Raceway. It was an old shop that was converted to a 12 lane slot car race track that was huge. Complete with live announcer making calls and controlling power. And then graduated to the Conejo Valley Railroad Association where many an adult had exclusive train sets of various gauges. Now kids have laptops and smartphones to play games. Sadly few get out and do the crazy things we did as kids.

Thanks for your memories too. They stimulated mine as well.

Jim

Me and my buddies loved to race slot cars... until we got our drivers' licenses and drove real cars... and discovered girls... girls were a lot more fun than slot cars... more expensive, but definitely more fun. 😎

My wife and I will be married 47 years in June. But she's 3 weeks older than me, so she calls me her boy toy.
