The industry is changing.

Looks like they're saving $$$ on models and photographers - but spending it on software.

Not enough of a particular model "type"???
Sad.
That they think they need them.

My guess is they are testing the waters. As technology improves they will most likely eliminate live models and photographers altogether. Just my opinion

Will save on outlay for contract employees.
Existing people will create what they need.

How does this increase diversity when no actual human models get paid?

I'll guess they can choose how many of what people they can use for their images.............

As several commenters in the article noted, it's rather hypocritical of Levis to whitewash their cost savings strategy by calling it a pro-diversity strategy. I have mixed feelings on this technology. On one hand, it puts hard working living models out of business. On the other hand, one could argue AI makes fashion models "buggy whip manufacturers in an era of cars" and the impossible image models create has driven many a girl and woman into eating disorders, depression, loss of self esteem and worse. Not that this'll change with AI models.

“While AI will likely never fully replace human models for us..." What she's not saying is, "We hope to do that someday." You notice she said "likely"?

People are the most expensive components in any business. That's why they keep eliminating them or finding cheaper ones in China. If one piece of software can replace a dozen people, that will save the company money and generate more profit. Don't expect lower prices, though - just more unemployed models.

Yes, those genetically favored women are going to have an extremely difficult life...hard times for them.

The example photo in the article of a young lady is an insult to me, and I’m not black. Re-coloring a white models skin to appear to be black model just shows how tone deaf Levi’s is.

The entertainment business has been using AI for quite some time now. Movies like Avatar, Cars, Toy Story, and on and on have become the norm. They pay actors to read the scripts and I would not be surprised to see computer-generated voices that will turn printed words into vocals to be used to further reduce production costs. "The times, they are a changing"

It appeals to the diverse markets they are servicing.
