I went over to one of our local wetlands this morning. I was pretty disappointed, the Council have let it go to rack & ruin. The nice hide that I used to sit in has so many reeds growing in front of it it's been rendered useless. Also a large area where there used to be a lot of birdlife has been completely taken over by reeds. Apart from a few assorted ducks, I did manage to get some shots of a beautiful Royal Spoonbill despite him talking off and landing about 75-100 meters away...you can just see him in the first pic across the lake.

It's a shame that they let things go to rack and ruin! Is it supported by taxes? Or volunteers? The local community to draw visitors? I would investigate and raise Hell!...or at least awareness!
A beautiful Spoonbill, By the way!

Thanks Chief, it's looked after by the local Council using tax/rate payer's money. A lot of bird photography groups and individuals visit the area and I'm hoping some of them put in a complaint...I'm going to..!

A fine set, Ron. We have a National Wildlife Refuge near here that was really damaged by our last hurricane four years ago and still repairs have not been started. I feel your pain.

That is a wonderful bird Ron, no wonder they named it Royal. I agree with Elliott, replace the council. My favorite wetlands in Tucson Arizona have been taken over by Cat Tails (reeds) to a degree that there is almost no open water left.
