We just spent 3 full days photographing birds at the Desert Retreat where Ron has two blinds set up for us - one for the afternoon and one for the morning. The morning blind is at a reflection pool, so lots going on, and a couple squirrels too.
If you are ever in the Tucson area in winter or early spring, rented some time at the Desert Retreat bird blinds is a productive and fun experience. It is a wonderful way to spend the winter and get out of the Idaho snow.
I used a Canon R5 with a 100-500mm lens for all of these images that I shot in about 3 hours.
I've spent many winters in Tucson, but never heard of this place. I will definitely check it out next time I'm down that way!
Nice photos btw!
Excellent set, John. Love the squirrel shots.
white crown shot is perfectly timed!

I got lucky a little and using the electronic shutter at 20 images per second helps to catch this pose. Both images on either side of this one were deleted!
Thank you! I'll keep it on file!
Your Cactus Wren is my favorite. Thanks too for the details of the gear used, IDs of the animals, and the Desert Retreat info.
Nice shooting there, John.
