Quote "Film era (35mm) lenses can be adapted to interchangeable lens mirrorless digital cameras" Q. What kind of photographic quality would I end up with ?

I found some money in the drawer where I keep my socks. Do you have some camera examples for me. To be honest I need a complete tutorial about all the different cameras out there. Where could I find that ? Thanks

For manual focus lenses, depends on your skill and level of effort aka practice. I get much better results with the same MF lens on digital mirrorless bodies than ever was accomplished with the same lenses on MF film bodies. The digital body has focusing aides that let me see the fine details at a 10x zoom that doesn't exist on SLR film bodies. I also pick up IS support from IBIS-enabled digital cameras.

Sony has probably the widest and oldest line of digital mirrorless bodies to select candidates. The mount adapters will tend to be 3rd party products, and for MF non digital lenses, they're rather cheap ($30 ish) as they're just metal donuts to position the lens to the proper flange distance from the sensor to achieve infinity focus.

I forgot to ask you if it's possible to get an adapter that would allow me to use old screw mount lenses on a newer camera. Would the results be any good ? I have an old Mamiya MSX 1000 with typical add on lenses. BTW one of my favorite (sold) cameras was a Mamiya 645J. Knocked my socks off but was getting too heavy.

If you can get up to around $90, some of the Olympus P series mirrorless cameras are out there. Essentially point and shoots with removable lenses.

I still think Canon A1200 will give you the most bang for the buck, especially if you ca use lower ISOs. Tons for $39.95 plus shipping in good shape on eBay.

I like the Canon PowerShot A1200 (or A1300 which is a slightly updated A1200). It's very small and to me most importantly has a viewfinder. I bought mine many years ago for $100. It is a "cheap point and shoot" . . . but one of the better ones. Good luck.

I see that there are still some{apparently usable} Canon A6xx cameras on eBay. I had {I think it was a A620} in 2007. It had a viewfinder, used 4 AA batteries {still available} and SD memory {still available}, and produced 7mb images {as I remember} - JPEG only.

Good cheap cameras (probably $50-$100)
Canon A series: used AA batteries, and had a viewfinder.
Canon S series, Fast (f2:0 lens,) 5x zoom, but no viewfinder
Fuji FXXX EXR (several models),
Panasonic Lumix FZ35 (a bridge camera)

There are many others that other UHHers have experience with.

Note that I have a Fuji f500exr and a Lunix fz35 that I would sell cheap. They are just cluttering up my closet. Both with chargers and batteries.

I have a Panasonic FZ18 which, like the fz35 has a built in super zoom. I loved that camera, would be perfect for taking photo's to sell stuff, as well as other things. The zoom and image stabilization is super good. Sensor is not the best but everything else is darn good. If it were me, I'd go with the FZ35 if his price is right. Ebay has them for < $50. It's a great fun camera with all the features and then some of the much more expensive camera's so it's a nice one to learn with. Also, the auto mode which makes it essentially a point and shoot is WAY better than the auto mode on my Nikon D5200.

I'll add a vote for old PowerShot. I've got a PowerShot A610, 5 megapixel from late 2005. AA batteries, small enough to carry in pocket, has taken some great shots. Old enough not to worry about.

Whatever I purchase, I often get something that uses AA batteries. I have found that stores seldom run out of them.

The A1300 is small, viewfinder, AAs, etc. But is 16 MP.
The A1200 is the same size, 12 MP but with a better "live view" control.

Film or digital? Film, Olympus XA. Film speed up to iso 800. f2.8 35mm lens.Sony had a 20 megapixel zoom (Zeiss) tiny camera. Simple. W830, I think. Those were the best I used. Worst, wow! Depends. Many “good” ones. Canon 9, before the X version, I liked. Casio sucked.
