I wonder if that was affected by the recent earthquake?
no, it is on the otherwise of the country
Nice! Been there several times when I was stationed at a USAF remote site from 91-93. Saw camel fights and Diana Ross did a special there. If I remember correctly the theater seated 24000! Have to say that Ephesus was way more interesting for me than the old city in Jerusalem. Just seeing for the first time a city that still had the carvings of the old gods…Zeus, Venus etc and Hercules..it was as if Homers Iliad and the Odyssey was staring back at me. The marble paved roads still had the ruts cut into then from all the carts and wagons from more than 2000 years ago…..AMAZING! Thanks again for the great pictures!
Great picture. We tested the acoustics when we were there, and they are wonderful. Modern theatres should take note.

Reminds me of a similar amphitheater in Athens, Greece, which I was at decades ago. I recall that there was a round circle about 2 feet diameter smack in the middle of the arena floor, and from that spot one could speak in normal volume, and it was heard perfectly by every single seat in the arena. The acoustical engineers of ancient Greece were spot on with their design.

Quite interesting! From what you show in the photo, there is/was a lot of seating!
