Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since the Cubs played their first home game at the park on April 20, 1916. The park first opened in 1914 as Weeghman Park. It was renamed Cubs Park from 1920 to 1926, before being renamed Wrigley Field in 1927.

Cubs Opener 2022

The 2022 Chicago Cubs season was their 151st season, the 147th in the National League, and the Cubs' 107th season at Wrigley Field.

Cubs Opener 2022

The Cubs began the season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 1, and finished the season on the road against the Cincinnati Reds on October 5, finishing the season 74–88, 19 games out of first place.

Cubs Opener 2022

In the final game of a short two-game series in May, the Cubs took an early 3–1 lead on homers by Nico Hoerner and Patrick Wisdom, but Kyle Hendricks surrendered four runs in 5.2 innings and the Cubs lost to the Chicago White Sox 4–3. The loss dropped the team to 9-15 at this early point in the season.

Cubs / Chi Sox

For the 2022 season, the green area at Gallagher Way was updated with the statues of Cubs greats previously located around the outsides of Wrigley Field.

Fergie Jenkins

Ferguson "Fergie" Jenkins was a 20-game winner for seven seasons, including six consecutive seasons for the Cubs. He led the NL in strikeouts in 1969 and had over 3,000 strikeouts during his career. He earned 284 victories playing with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox. In 1991, Jenkins became the first Canadian elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Harry Caray

Harry Caray would usually hold the microphone out to the crowd during his distinctive, down-tempo version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". And if the visitors were ahead in that game, Harry would typically make a plea to the home team's offense: "Let's get some runs!"

Fergie Jenkins

In 1979, Jenkins was made a Member of the Order of Canada for being "Canada's best-known major-league baseball player".

Wrigley Field

By the June 15 game against the Padres, the Cubs were on a 8-game losing streak and had fallen to 23-38. This loss, and the next game too, would lead to 10 losses in a row.

Wrigley Field

The Cubs were thrashed by the Padres, losing 19–5 in game three of the series.

Wrigley Field

The 2022 San Diego Padres went on to earn a wild card birth in the playoffs, defeating first the NY Mets, and then pulling a major upset of the LA Dodgers in the Division Series.

Wrigley Field

By the June 17 game against the Braves, the Cub's 2022 record was at 24-40.

Wrigley Field

The Braves entered the 2022 season, their 152nd in Major League baseball, as the defending World Series champions.

Wrigley Field

The Cubs broke Atlanta's 14-game winning streak along with their own 10-game losing streak.

As we prepare for next week's Opening Day 2023, the southeast corner at Wrigley Field has been redone, with a new entrance and restaurant / bar connected to the stadium.

Nice shots of Wrigley! I hope to see it in person someday. My wife is from Chicago and I have been there numerous times but have not been to see a game there. Ideally it would be against St. Louis, which I consider my team even though I have never lived in the city. Growing up in Memphis, we had the Memphis Chicks which was the Cardinals triple-A team. Today they are known as the Memphis Red Birds.

It is one of three stadiums I want to visit. The other two are Camden Yards in Baltimore and Fenway Park in Boston.
I went to games in St. Louis at Busch 1, and Busch 2 but have not been to Busch 3. I did finally get to see the Yankees play at the old stadium the last week they used it. They had only three games left there before heading to their new stadium.

Thank you and glad you enjoyed, Ben! I maybe like last year's survey of the Harry Caray statue better, something I put together before the 2022 Opening Day, but it didn't make the digest and didn't get much visibility. Personally, I'm in the final week of Spring Training with a roster of mostly unknowns (to me) on the Cubs that I need to learn their names and positions.

Thank you Mike! I've lived within ear-shot of Wrigley for most of my 33 years here on the Northside. The neighborhood vibe is noticeably different when our arch rivals are in town.

Thank you mvetrano2, W9OD, Bridges, Ben, Mike W! The past few years, I've been to Wrigley more for concerts than baseball. I'm still smarting over the collapse at the end of the 2018 season where we few out of the division title into a 1-game playoff against the Brewers (a loss). And then the next night, a loss to Colorado in the 1-game wild card. I had the identical seat along the left field line for both.

March 30th is almost here Paul. I can already smell the hot dogs and popcorn. I try to hit Yankee Stadium once or twice a year. Great shots.

Great shot of the sign for the 2022 opener. Many yellow/blue flags for Ukraine. (Yellow for the wheat fields / Blue for the sky)

Great shots over all. Reminded me of those days when I drove by, hearing the crowd noise from inside.

Well done, I have been in South Carolina for 36 years but grew up in northern Indiana, the Elkhart/South Bend Area. Still follow the Cubbies, watch all their games on MLB.TV.

Thank you Alvin, Ray, Stephan, Steve! If you haven't been around Wrigley lately, there's been a lot of work on the outsides of the stadium and the lots of work across the streets along Clark and Addison. New hotels and restaurants. I'm planning to kick off the day around 10am with live music at the Gman Tavern, a 1902 building with a history of various businesses before the latest incarnation as a low-key pool hall and music venue.
