I got a Canon "R" body for Christmas this year and have been anxious to try it out on the night sky. The app Sun Surveyor shows the Milky Way is just now peeking over the horizon for awhile these morning so I headed out last Saturday to give it a try...
Tech info: Canon R body, Rokinon 14 mm f2.4 lens, ISO 1600 at 18 seconds. Edited in Photoshop Elements 2022.
I'm looking to do more as the Milky Way climbs higher int eh night sky. This was shot between Brush and Akron, CO.
Always amazing! Nice capture
As an astronomer in NJ we have too much light polution for that. I love seeing the milky way (steam) coming out of the teapot Sagittarius.

That's a good starter Mojaveflyer for an early season shoot. Have you tried Sequator as your editor? It's a freeby and has features that Elements doesn't have for Astrophotography.
Which Canon R are you using? Full size sensor or cropped?
Jack Olson
I'm using the full sensor R. I haven't tried Sequator but will look at it.... Thanks!

Did you consider the Ra which I understand is made for astrophotography?
I have a 60D modified for astrophotography but from what I'm hearing it's better used for nebula and similar objects. My budget was somewhat limited and the "R" was the best I could do. If I win the lottery I may consider it.... Thanks!
