As the temperature dropped and shadows spread into the increasing darkness of fading twilight, delicate icy fingers subtly reached in to clasp and claim the melt puddles.

Interesting pattern.
It's what caught my attention right away.
The phone cam couldn't "see" it as well as I could, so it took some effort to get it into a spot where the pattern showed up pretty well on the screen.
After how much the cam struggled in the low light to get something close to a focus and came up with so much noise in the image, the record of a pattern is about all this pic is good for, really....but it is what it is.
It was cooling down quickly enough, I really think it would have been possible to see changes occur as the pattern developed and grew.
I really, really, really wanted to stay there while there was still some light, to see if it was possible to watch changes occur, but I did not believe those who were expecting me to stay on schedule would be kindly amused if I told them I had gotten a little behind schedule because I was watching water freeze. đ

I think they would look like sails if you were to rotate the photo 90* right.

Hey, yeah, nice idea.
I took you up on your suggestion, but to me it does not look very convincing. âšī¸
To me, looks more like shabby teepees in a boulder field, with heavy, low-hanging smoke around the tops of the teepees. Maybe it would be different for others.
