Anamorphic Look (Light Flair)

Trying something new. Wanted to see how to make Light Flairs. After purchasing the filter and reviewing more YouTube videos I decided to add the top and bottom black areas to imitate a cinema look.

If the weather holds I'll go downtown and shoot after sunset for some Anamorphic Looking photos with the help of bright lights, car lights, street lights and such.

I like the overall effect. But I am getting the sense there should have been a little more flair to your flair

Movies have long accepted light flaring.

This was done using filter. What you see is straight out of camera other than the top and bottom black added bars.

You are so right. I was watching a show on TV last night and was watching for the flair. It is used a lot. There was a commercial that used it extensively using several different color flairs.

I was trying the filter out last night. As you can see the larger the light the wider the flair. I need to do a lot more testing but f/ should make a difference too. Not sure if different lenses will affect the flair. The flair only show up when you have intense light. I shot the front of the house where I have recessed lighting and no flair showed up because not intense enough or it needs the glass bulb to grab the flair. Still in the preliminary testing/learning. You can turn the filter to make the flair go in any direction.

Not a good shot just testing what light works best.

Ah ok, can the filter be adjusted or can it be rotated to give different result?

The filter rotates to angle the flair not the size. Looks like the size/width is predicated on the brightness and size of the light.

You've probably put away your Christmas lights by now, but it might be worth digging them out again.

Interesting how the "flair" looks like a laser. Not a bad effect at all; but not "flair" like you get with old uncoated lenses. Cool photo and great that you are constantly trying new things. Bravo!
