I bought a Helios 44/2 lens on ebay couple of yeas ago. Decided to bring it out again to shoot the Orchid plant. This lens is known for creating a soft blurry background effect.

My background was done some time ago. It's a downloaded background texture that I blew up fro make a print about 22 x34. Took the file up to Walmart for a cheep $10 print. Got it back and mounted to some gator board with rubber cement.

Set this backdrop behind the plant. Used window light for my lighting.

Did small amount of PS Camera Raw editing.

Gorgeous photo, Jim!! Your backdrop works so well with the colors of the orchids and your (natural) lighting is just right.

That's a wall hanger!!!

Thank you Dodie. You can do so much with just natural lighting although most of the time it will take a tri-pod to keep the camera still during the longer shutter speed.

Looks like your โ€œinvestment โ€œ of $59.00 worked out really well. I like your idea of creating the background. That $10.00 gets to be used over and over again. The same is true for your so-called cheap lens.

Thank Frank. Simple set up as you can see in this picture. I need to re-glue my print, i've been a little abusive as I store it. ๐Ÿฅด
