Royal Tern robbery. The Royal Terns at Sebastian Inlet State Park have learned how to steal bait off the fisherman's hook. Look closely at the second image and see how they do it. Once the line gets tight, the hook comes out of the bait and the bird has a free meal.

Nice captures. That's a dangerous way to get a meal, though.

fishermen in the Gulf using live shrimp or shad as bait deal with robbing gulls all the time. The trick is to use a bit of weight to get the bait well into the water before the bird can snatch if off the surface. But it doesn't always work.

When one gets caught in the line (or by the hook), then the fisherman instantly becomes a kite flyer as the gull tries altitude as an escape route. It is a very strange view to see your rod bouncing and bending upward instead of down (as in fish-on). Might be kinda fun, except its a fairly difficult thing to deal with.

Cut your line or reel him in, and then all hell breaks loose!

good shots!
