Dragonfly - Flash Diffusion Modification

This is a single-shot macro image of my preserved dragonfly. I made modifications to lens mounted cone diffuser and I wanted to see how it would perform.

I placed a pastel cloud-patterned paper behind the dragonfly that was mounted on a pin. This is the same arrangement that I have been using on my recent posts other than using a different background.

The particulars of this session were a Nikon Z6 camera with a Nikon S-mount 105mm macro lens. Manual Mode, 1/60 sec. shutter speed, f/16, ISO-200, Auto White Balance, Nikon SB-800 Speedlight flash 1/4-power, diffused with the lens mounted 0.5mm white polyethylene plastic cone and foil-lined hooded flash head.

Thanks, Mark. This is the prototype I'm working with. The attachment to the flash is lined with aluminum foil. I have several dedicated macro flashes and I favor the Nikon Speedlight because I have a powerpack for it which allows me to fire off multiple shots much faster than with only the flash-mounted batteries.

It seems a fairly unique design. I've tried Al foil linings, and also HVAC tape (that being already sticky and will stick itself to anything!]. In my current build, I am tinkering with one of those car solar screens with crinkly silver lining.
Being able to easily disassemble is desirable. The cool kids like to use plastic snaps to fasten the bits together. But securing those seems to require special tools. I am trying out those old-fashioned metal fasteners ( https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/613827/Office-Depot-Brand-Round-Head-Fasteners/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&mediacampaignid=71700000098241248_17846098977&gclid=CjwKCAiAjPyfBhBMEiwAB2CCIiBhr7K4gauWbptdEcQaSTCvQ_9PDHLB_ffTQHD-JfffwSkwzRtPgBoCr9oQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds )that you can get at any office supply store.

Mark, the automobile solar blocker should work quite well and be sturdy enough to make it durable. I build most of my experiments from cardboard and if they show promise then I search for other materials. Of course, there are more duds than eureka although the joy is in trying.

Here's a link to eBay for the snaps and tools to install them. 150 snap set with tools is $7.00 (from China, of course).

Mine is a modified version of the AK Diffuser or the Kingfisher which is similar. I've gotten fairly good at making a cone now and I staple it together once I fit it onto the lens. It works well and it is easy to put on and take off. I can also use the Laowa dual-head bendy-arm flash with the cone and I can make them any size I care to.
