Cattle Egret, early morning light with nesting material. Manual exposure is a must in a situation where you have a very dark background and a white bird. So, manual exposure taken from a green tree and then 2 or even 2 1/2 to 3 stops under exposure is correct for this situation.

Top notch image here and I agree, with any of the auto exposure method here except when using exposure compensation methods, the bird would be overexposed. But I will reiterate, Sony's zebra technology when properly set up may be an easier approach. Have you considered trying it?
