Long story short: a friend asked if I'd fix a family photo for her.
I scanned at differing exposures/gamuts/contrasts/etc. to see if an HDR-ed composite might reveal various of the weak or absent highlights, then ended up proceeding with only one of the scans. Before long, between corrections and modifications and digital legerdemain in Lr and who knows how many hits with the clone tool and selections and other digerty-doo in Ps, it dawned on me that what I was seeing was not a basic 'restoration'. It was, or would instead be --thanks to the lady's look-- an image worthy of something more 'interpretative'.
I could be right or I could be wrong. There's little difference between the two.
Really nice! But what happened to her left ear?

The bearded, seated gentleman bit it off somewhere between my thirty-seventh and my fifty-first iteration of the image. Which should surprise no one, myself included. He has a kind of ear-biter/axe murderer quality to him, wouldn't you say?
Beyond that, I don't know if he chewed her ear up and swallowed it or spat it out while I wasn't looking, and until you asked, I hadn't thought to inquire.
There always has to be a critic! She still has one good ear doesn’t she? It sheds new light on the saying “lend me your ear.”
I thought that she might be a van Gogh.

Nice effect. Light reflex shows she has a divergent right eye.
