Portugal

Tomar is Located on the Atlantic coast, it has long sandy beaches (considered by some to be among the best in Portugal), attracting many tourists in the summer. The town was created inside the walls of the Convento de Cristo, constructed under the orders of Gualdim de Pais, the fourth Grand Master of the Knights Templar of Portugal in the late 12th century.
Tomar was the last Templar town to be commissioned for construction and is one of Portugal's historical jewels. The town was especially important in the 15th century when it was a center of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, successor organization to the Knights Templar in Portugal.
Tomar lies in the most fertile region of Portugal, and one of the most fertile in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located in the district of Santarém. The predominant landscape is agricultural, consisting of olive, pine and fig trees.
Under the modern city lies the Roman city of Sellium. After the conquest of the region from the Moors it was granted in 1159, a fief to the Order of the Knights Templar. In 1160, Gualdim Pais, the Order's Grand master in Portugal and Tomar's somewhat mythical founder, laid the first stone of the Castle and Convent of the Knights Templar that would become the headquarters of the Order in Portugal.

Lisbon. is the capital and largest city of Portugal, and it is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the second-oldest European capital city (after Athens), predating other modern European capitals by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. After the fall of the Roman Empire it was ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century; later it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147 Afonso Henriques conquered the city and since then it has been the political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal.

Vidigueira is a town and a municipality in the District of Beja in Portugal. It is a Portuguese wine region centered on the Vidigueira municipality in the Alentejo region.

Cabo da Roca is a cape which forms the westernmost point of the Sintra Mountain Range, of mainland Portugal, of continental Europe, and of the Eurasian landmass. It is situated in the municipality of Sintra, near Azóia, southwest of the district of Lisbon. Notably the point includes a lighthouse that started operation in 1772.
The Cabo da Roca Lighthouse is a beacon/lighthouse located 541 ft. above the Atlantic Ocean, on Portugal's (and continental Europe's) most westerly extent.

Évora) is a city and a municipality in Portugal. It is the historic capital of the Alentejo and serves as the seat of the Évora District. Due to its well-preserved old town centre, still partially enclosed by medieval walls, and many monuments dating from various historical periods, including a Roman Temple, Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Due to its inland position, Évora is one of Portugal's hottest cities in the summer, frequently subject to heat waves. Évora has a history dating back more than five millennia. The Romans conquered the town in 57 BC and expanded it into a walled town. Vestiges from this period (city walls and ruins of Roman baths) remain. In 715, the city was conquered by the Moors under Tariq ibn-Ziyad. During the Moorish rule (715–1165)., slowly began to prosper again and developed into an agricultural center with a fortress and a mosque. The Moorish influence can still be observed in the character of the historical city.

Nazaré is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the Silver Coast (Costa de Prata). The town of Nazaré consists of three neighborhoods: Praia (along the beach), Sítio (an old village, on top of a cliff) and Pederneira (another old village, on a hilltop). Praia and Sítio are linked by the Nazaré Funicular, a funicular railway. These earliest settlements were in Pederneira and in Sítio, above the beach, providing the inhabitants with refuge against raids by Vikings and, later, French, English and Dutch pirates, that lasted until as late as the beginning of the 19th century. According to Nazaré, the town derives its name from a small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, brought from Nazareth, Holy Land, to a monastery near the city of Mérida, Spain, by a monk in the 4th century. The statue was brought to its current location in 711 by another monk, Romano, accompanied by Roderic, the last Visigoth king of today's Portugal.
Located on the Atlantic coast, it has long sandy beaches (considered by some to be among the best in Portugal), attracting many tourists in the summer, however the Nazarene coastline is among the most dangerous in the world with its high waves.

Thanks Don,
I had misfiled the Portugal jpegs after I scanned the slides and actually just discovered their hiding place the other day. I have to admit that it brought back some pretty great memories for me also. I appreciate your comments.
