Male Great Egrets in mating plumage are starting to return to Wakodahatchee. It is only a matter of time until the females appear.
Sony a1, Sony 600 f4 @ f4, 1/1000 sec. iso 800, manual exposure based on reading from green grass and then 2 stops down to record detail in the Great Egret. Windy day, you can tell by the skirt of the Great Egret blowing.
Green Lore around the eyes and the skirt show this Great Egret is ready to mate. Male and females get identical plumage. This marks the beginning of the mating season at Wakodahatchee. It will go until May.
Green Cay also is showing two Pied-Billed Grebe chicks. Exciting times for sure.
That’s a great image--the plume is outstanding.
