I an trying to setup my macro bench to I can use live view on my D810 and tether to a monitor so I can check my focus easier.
Got my software last week installed it on my Mac book pro and connected to the camera, in live view it ran my battery down in about 20 mins.
So I looked up a Nikon A/C adapter with a battery adapter $118+ bad news the battery adapter is back ordered. So I went after market , Brand Power2000 AC Adapter& DC Coupler Kit less than half of the Nikon, (checked reviews) 4.5 stars most of the lower ratings were for not working out of the box no problem I bought the protection plan for $9.95that way if and when it failed after the warranty was up I could still get another.
The adapter arrived this afternoon, I connected to the camera as per Nikon instructions plugged it in and turned it on first thing was the battery power graph was running like it was charging the battery, tried the shutter release nada, turned the camera switch off the camera wouldn't turn off, removed the power adapter camera off, inserted battery, turn switch on NO shutter release, switch off, camera still on, removed battery camera off, Checked with my local camera store about repair their best guess the Mother board is screwed up Approx $400 to repair.
Called B&H talked to five people no help, the last guy began telling me they are not liable Going to check with a higher up in the morning but I am guessing I'm screwed.
I do have one more person to talk to at B&H after I talk to Power 2000
But I did get a phone number of Power 2000 will call them first , wanna guess how that's going to work out ?
I don't expect B&H to foot the bill but I'm hoping they might give me a break on a used D810.
If not I'm off to Schiller's in St.Louis to let them ship the camera.
The hell of it is my camera has less than 7K actuations on it, so getting it repaired might be my best route.
BTW Power 2000 also sells batteries.and this thing is a flimsy POS
THIS IS why I am so down on after market things for my cameras!!
Will drive to St.Louis to the The camera Store and let them send the camera in

Reading your text it sounds like you have all the money in the world. The things you are describing would put me in the poor house.

I think the battery should last for more than 20 min. in live view. I don't think Power2000 would fix or pay to fix your camera.
I really wonder what the power supply does to damage the camera.

As far the battery lasting for a full 20 mins of live view I thought it would, the battery is getting old, but works great when I am shooting normally .
I doubt if Power 2000 will pay
I don't know how it damaged the camera but I will be checking the voltage output later this morning
If is double the voltage which would be 18vdc I believe that could do it
The EL-EN5c battery has five contacts how they are arranged I don't know but I hope I can find out.

Sorry for your troubles. I'm with you on trying to stay with OEM. It always cost a premium but the delays currently experienced are sometimes more than can be endured.

I do not think the power supply putting too high a voltage. The battery pack has 5 connections and only 2 are for the power. I think it's the signal on the other 3 that are not correct that caused the camera to act up.

First off, I am sorry that this happened to you.
Though it is rare that I see examples of this sort of failure, because, who wants to advertise that they made a poor choice?
I know that I have made more than a "Few Poor Choices" in my life.
I admit that I know very little about Plumbing-Up electrics so I shy away from knockoffs when it comes to powering (read cameras, lenses, etc.) expensive electronic devices.
Best Wishes for a favorable outcome . . .

Oh, sorry to hear that Frank, a sad story indeed! But, it is a lesson we all need to hear once in a while, shame it was at your expense though!

UPDATE!! about product
This morning while getting ready to take my camera to Schiller's Camera for repair I was removing battery and cards, I just happened to turn the camera on after I had removed the CF card and it everything worked! so I turned the camera off and went to insert the CF card and it would not seat, I inspected the slot and can't see any bent pins but Im sure something is not cricket!!
also earlier I had checked the output slots on a battery and on the adapter and they were the same+/-.
tried the adapter without the CF card and it does work, but it is a flimsy POS but for the price I can't complain, it is exactly what I expected and as soon as Nikon has the adapter in stock I will order one.
I also have a call in for the customer service mgr. to apologize, at least I wasn't a complete A##hole.
I bought this camera new in 2016 and it only has a shutter count of 6699 so I will be sending it in for repair in the future.
BTW the five contacts on the battery have different voltages
and there could have had improper voltage output, which I checked this morning, couldn't do it yesterday didn't have my DVM, I had it at the shot up the road from my house.
