This new R7 feels like I am cheating. I was hesitant to enter the mirrorless world and animal eye detection.
GREAT catch ! ......it does seem just a tad front focused tho .......thanks for sharing

One thing you get with a full frame camera is better depth of field. The R7 sacrifices some depth of field. I shoot only JPEG because the buffer is not very large. It supposedly has the focusing system of the R3. The buffer is very large so large RAW files can be used. For $1500 vs $6000 it is a bargain. Some limitations. Small buffer and non-stacked sensor are a some of the limitations. Thats why I shoot JPEG and use the mechanical shutter. Interesting thing about the JPEG photos when compared to the RAW photos is that there is not much difference. The algorithm for JPEG's is phenomenal and does a great job.

One thing you get with a full frame camera is bett... (

If you prefer raw, try the C-RAW setting... that's "compressed RAW" and apparently helps a lot with the buffer, with virtually no noticeable loss of image quality.
Not sure what you mean by "sacrafices some depth of field". It is easier to get strong background blur with full frame... you need approx. 1 stop larger aperture on APS-C, to get the same amount of blur.
Also, you can use slightly smaller stops on full frame before diffraction becomes an issue. This isn't because diffraction itself is any different, but because an image made with full frame will not be enlarged as much as one from APS-C, when sizing the image for its intended use. For example, assuming no cropping, to make an 8x12" print from FF is approx. 8X magnification, while the same 8x12" from APS-C is about 13X magnification. And more magnification means any softening due to diffraction will be more obvious.
I don't know that either factor makes one format or the other's DoF "better". It's just a little "different", so is something you need to take into consideration and plan around.
Enjoy your new camera! It looks like it is working well!
great shot. I, too, have an R7 and am super pleased with it. So much, that I sold my excellent Canon 6DII.
