The White Pelicans are winter visitors, and they often arrive early and stay late. But, whenever they arrive, I am always glad to see them. They are considerably larger than the Brown Pelican, our resident pelican. The last image is a small island where the pelicans gather every year. The island is a good distance from land so the photo is greatly cropped to a panorama view. It is odd to me, but the pelicans on this island seem to lounge around for most of the day without eating. They must eat in shifts because they always have a presence on this island. I hope you enjoy and thanks for viewing.

Where is it located please?

The island is in Oso Bay, between Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi. The other photos were taken at Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas.

In North Dakota there is a reserve called Chase Lake Game Reserve. For years there were an estimated fifty thousand white pelicans on it. Then it went to zero birds, from fifty thousand to zero in one year. No one knew where they had gone or had seen them leave. About five years later they were all back, from zero birds to fifty thousand and still no answers. Strange
I've seen several thousand in flight, the only thing that can beat it is several thousand Canada geese.

Ours often fly in large groups, but never as large as the groups you describe.
