Apparently not the camera.

I know Apple's going to tell me to contact Canon and Canon's going to tell me it's a problem for Apple to solve which is why I'm probably going to return the Mark II to B&H. I hate to do that as I really like the camera. I've taken over 5k photos since I started storing them on my computer (when my granddaughter was born in 2013). I've probably used at least a dozen different cameras and uploaded all of them successfully onto the computer (my second MacBook Pro since '13). I shoot the photos, remove the SD card from the camera and insert it into the computer and they go into "Imports" and then to "Library", from which I can "Choose File" and download any that I want. Well, I took a couple dozen photos at a car show this summer with my R6 (not II) and they all showed up in "Imports" but a half dozen never made it to "Library" so I couldn't download them ("Choose File"). OK, I let that slide, but now with the Mark II they go to "Import" but none go to "Library" so of course I can't "Choose File". Does anyone have a answer?

I avoid anything called "library" like its ebola. Try just using the basic OS, and enjoy your R6II again. Seems to me your thread title all wrong. You dont have an R6II problem.

There can be settings in libraries to make them friendlier, but I have never found it easier than just using the basic tools of the OS ... and I just happen to have a Master of Library Science !

The number one thing you learn in library school is that everything is all about the patron. Designers of Apple and Windows libraries clearly never learned that.

Your camera does not know what you will be doing with the SD card after you remove it. So it is not the culprit.

The real problem is that "walked garden" attitude of Apple where it rules what and how to store or process your files.

i don't use Apple (I know better than that), but check your *computer* settings.

Apple's customer service is excellent. I would have gone to them FIRST.

I'd never choose a computer system that requires customer service to do something trivial like moving files.

Imagine if you had to call Frigidaire's customer service to move the carrots from one tray to another.

Sometimes you just have to sacrifice to LEARN new technology. We don't crank our cars anymore to start them do we?? Well maybe YOU do. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I am glad you chose us to solve your Canon problem on an Apple. But, I would call them for help they know the products better than we do.

I was going to suggest you use Canon's "EOS Utility", assuming there is a version for Apple (I have a Windows PC). But if your method now works, don't fix it.

What a silly thing to say. Who would want such a system?

But he was using a program to transfer the files so there is another layer of complexity involved.

It is possible the reason some images didn't automatically copy over from the memory card is because they have the same "name" as image files already in the folder... so the software "thinks" they are duplicates.

This sort of problem (and others) are why I do all my image "downloads" manually.

1. Create a folder on the computer to receive the images.
2. Use the system browser to open the folder on the memory card containing the images.
3. Highlight all the image files.
4. Drag and drop to the folder on the computer to copy the images there.
5. Open Lightroom Library module, Import dialogue.
6. Point the Import to the computer folder holding the images and start the Import.

Once Lightroom adds the images to its catalog, you're ready to do whatever you want with the images. Sort them various ways, rename them, edit them, print them, whatever.

The above is far easier than "fixing" things when automation goes wrong. I stopped using Lightroom auto downloads after it made a mess of my file system. That happened when some defaults were reset after an update to the program. (I've mostly stopped automatic software updates, too.)

I have had Mac for many years and I also recently purchased an R6II (which I love, BTW). I don't love everything about Mac (Photos is far less of a program than the iPhoto it replaced, for example), but what you are trying to do should be fairly easy.

I don't like them going to Photos, so I use their 'Image Capture' software (free with every OS) to download my photos from either the camera or the card directly to whichever folder I wanted. I haven't had any problems with the R6II in that regard. As others have said, Apple has excellent technical support, so if it isn't operating as it should, they would be able to help you. Good luck with it!

Thank you all for your advice. Here's what happened. I'd have egg on my face but who can afford eggs? I called Apple and after spending 25 minutes with a gal, she turned me over to an "expert". After 5 minutes he asked me to check the calendar on the camera. That was the problem. I got the camera from B&H on January 2, 2023. Well, I was sure to get the correct date on my checks, however on my new R6 II, I had January 2, 2022. That was the solution to my problem. The camera is fine...my Apple is fine...I'm not!

Yep. I have been using Image Capture for many years for downloading from camera memory cards.
