Any chance you might have been using a dual card camera in redundant mode (same image on both cards)?

I need help! I've been shooting for decades and I've never done this before! But I need to recover some images off a card. It's a SanDisk Extreme PRO 16 GB. I've heard folks talk about recovering photos off the disk after it has been formatted. And now I need to do just that!

So, if you have done this, does it actually work? How does one do this?

First contact the manufacturer. They may give you some valuable tips to restore your images.

But in retrospect, I never format my cards! This is the best reason. And Yes! I have a bagillion cards safely tucked away in cases. I will buy two or three cards when on sale. Each one is consecutively numbered.

Years ago I did this. All the images I had ever taken on the card were still on the card. Each was 10-50 bytes in size, way too small to be of any use.

I had a similar issue with a SanDisk card... though I did not format it, it became corrupted and could not be read by the camera or the PC. I used EaseUS Data Recovery Pro as the SanDisk rescue tools did not work. You have to pay for it, but it recovered all of my images. I believe you can download it and test to see if it can recover the files before you buy it.

I hope this help. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I wonder if it's possible to make a copy of the card, just to play it safe. Maybe cloning software would work.

I have two others, but UHH won't allow them.

Everyone does this once, some twice! I'm included. I use Lexar cards and they have software downloads just for this job and I would expect the same of SanDisk. MOST IMPORTANTLY, don't do anything else with the card until you run the software, which may take some time. Check the packaging, or the SanDisk site for more information. Nothing will be lost except some time. Best of luck.

Yes, I've also done this and have used the recovery software. As stated above...DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE with the card until you get the recovery software.

I have had a fair amount of success with rescuepro also. Not 100%, unfortuantely.

My friend does that because she doesn't have a computer. So she keeps a list of what pics are on what numbered card. For Christmas one year I bought her a plastic case that they fit in nicely. Unfortunately, the cards I buy are sort of expensive, and I can't afford to keep buying cards.

I have recovered some. Haven't checked the size, though.

Hadn't thought about copying the card. I might try that for safety. Thanks for all the links.

I took it out of the camera and put it in the computer slot. It's still there!

I used SanDisk's software. It spent a lot of time recovering files. Unfortunately, they were files from the previous format, and not the ones I saw on the disk. So apparently it went deeper and I still don't have the files I want.
