To answer the challenge, when I'm taking photos I'm looking for beauty in the world. I never quite capture it but my camera helps me search.

Joe, this is a terrific idea for the challenge. And thanks for hosting. You have us off to a wonderful start with these first groups of yours. I especially love the flowers and the zoo photographs; they are spectacular! I must have a few in my archives to show how I improve my mood in winter, (something necessary, according to my wife) while golf season is dormant . I will hunt through my storage.

Our task this week is to photographically show how you keep your mood up during the, at times, awesomely bad weather 90% of us experience at this time of year (If your weather is California- or Florida-like fret not. Show us what is available to you which might not be in other seasons).

A search on Google notes that “warm” can refer to: “having, showing, or expressive of enthusiasm, affection, or kindness.” In other words, warm can be physical, emotional, or maybe even spiritual. Let the Google definition be your guide.

Personally, winter is not a big problem for me unless my snow blower is inoperable - and we get two feet of snow!

Because it is often cloudy and dark for long stretches in our wintry Chicago-area, I seek places, normally indoors, where I can find nature thriving or other subjects of interest. It gives me solace and keeps my hope in bloom! I’m betting that just as there are many members of UHH online, so too are there many ways of generating this “warmth” in the season.

Enjoy your posting

The first place I visit is called Hauserman Orchids, in Villa Park, IL. It's 4 acres indoors of every kind of orchid you can imagine - and they don't mind at all if you take pictures

I try to hit several car museums since they exhibit such great design, color, and beauty. This is from the Laporte County Museum in Laporte, Indiana.

The design of vehicles surely made these "head turn worthy". IMHO - today, very few are works of art but rather a testament to engineering.

I also frequent any bird fairs I can find! They are great places to visit with gorgeous, incomparable specimens (who are full of life and beauty) and their friendly owners.

Beautiful colors and the feather textures clearly visible.

I visit a lot of places that are serenely empty when the air is frosty - but the sky is crisp blue! I try to avoid the snow.

Up here, places like this are best visited between tourist seasons. The grasses shot is splendid

Thanks for hosting this, Joe. Fabulous flower photos, and such rich color captures in all three sets.
Winter in Dallas is a bit different than the annual freeze in Chicago. Nonetheless, we don’t particularly like it either. So …

Wonderful series JJJJ. The tropical blue is a spirit lifter, but the Dump truck signage is worth a belly laugh!

Many, many years ago my father photographed a rattlesnake in a coiled up position, ready to strike.
When I asked him how he got that photo, he said the hardest part was catching the snake. He said he coiled it up and placed his hand on it for a while. He removed his hand and when it raised its head to strike, he snapped the shutter. This was probably back in the 1940's.

I don't get sick of winter until about mid-March. I've always liked winter and it's beauty. Not real fond of shoveling, but I definitely have learned to drive in it - nurses have to get to work (not any more for me -retired) Some activities (like skiing) are no longer part of my mood lifter, but snowshoes and walking still are. I use the season to pursue my attempt at capturing a perfect snowflake with less than the appropriate equipment. I also spend time at track meets watching my grandson and his buddies and use time to try learning editing techniques, catching up on photo update videos...I do other things to keep my spirits up, but that's quite enough for today.
