I got my float rating back in 1965, but I haven't flown since 2004 when I retired from Mesaba Airlines. Before that I was in aircraft sales and charter. I used to get up to Ely often in my job with the Cessna
distributor, Walston Aviation of St. Paul. One of my favorite dealers was Wilderness Wings Airways in Ely. The Waco pictured in my avatar belonged to Wilderness Wings and I got to fly it a couple of times up
to Harris lake in Ontario ice fishing.
I think I got my float rating with Wilderness Wings. That was back in 1971. I was pretty much a helicopter pilot, but haven’t flown since 1988, back when I was working for the Alaska State Troopers, because they weren’t letting me fly enough to stay proficient. I miss it a lot. Very cool you got to fly that Waco.
