First try at a moon pic. Handheld with my Nikon D5300.
NIKON 70.0-300.0 mm f/4.5-6.3
Focal Length:
405mm (35mm eq.)
Aperture: f/6.3
Exposure: 1/160
ISO equiv: 100

Photographing the moon is no different than shooting in the sun on earth.
With IS and proper technique for daylight shooting it should be as sharp with or without a tripod.

Not quite sharp. If no tripod then trade off against iso. For instance iso 200 at 1/320 or iso 400 at 1/640

At the distance there is atmospheric softening.
Perhaps the OP did not fake it by running it through 3 dozen software photo alteration programs.

ISO was 100. SS 1/160
