Boonie Cap

Architect1776 Loc: In my mind

I was in the Gatsby room looking for a book to research a topic. I looked on top the book shelf and saw my grandfather's helmet, my father's helmet, my 2 (steel pot and original kevlar) helmets and then the boonie cap.
I seldom had use for the helmets except for formations but the places around the world that cap went with me brought back many memories.

Very cool. What branch did you serve in?

Army, 1/506th in the airborne infantry.
Then some other small units in the Army.
Got to visit and "meet" some interesting people in various places. Especially around SA.

The image has character. I like it.
Perhaps you should have done a little prospecting too while wearing the hat. Superstition has it that a hat like that always brings luck . . .

I survived in a high casualty unit.
Is that good enough?

Sure, survival is paramount but that hat could have done even more for you! . . .

It is my hat, I wore it, central and south America, middle east, Europe, and a couple of other places.
Obviously in cold climates I wore other gear that I still have as well.
We were issued new gear for each assignment and never returned it.
Gave a lot to family including hundreds of 30 round magazines.
Attic still has stuff in it.
