Welcome to the forum Sakwes, you will be in good company here - since I joined almost nine years ago, I have learned a lot both from the member discussions and from viewing other posts and posting myself, and I still consider myself also a wannabe photographer. BTW, I am also Canadian (and originally Swiss) but am now living just south of the border in WA state. I saw your first post, you have some really nice pictures there! I just made a temporary intermission to a long series I am posting on a trip to South and East Asia, will continue hopefully in mid January or so. PS - I am just looking again at your second post: "Are amateurs welcome?" - you got some nice shots there. May I suggest that you click on the little box "(store original) right beside the "Add Attachment" button, when adding your images, this way we can see the images in full resolution and better rendition.

You are very welcome, there are plenty of small things to learn to function at maximum efficiency on such a forum, which will take a while. Another one is that once you click on the "Send" button, you have something like 30-45 minutes to make any correction in case you notice an error in typing or a missed info. Just click on the "Edit" button after your post, make the update and the click on "Update" or something like that. Happens to me frequently that I notice an error and it is a good way to fix it before the post is "set in stone" and cannot be changed. Happy posting!

I had figured out the edit button thing, but still no luck with the store original button. I clicked on it before starting the upload and after starting the upload. But nothing changed in my post.

Here is the step-by-step procedure:

1 - First do your opening text, then click on "Preview"
2 - Click on Chose File, then add the link to the file
3 - Click on the box before (store original)
4 - Click on Add attachment

Wait for the attachment to load, then you will see the uploaded image, with the "Download" button underneath the image

You can then add the caption for the image, as I see you have been doing, and you will see the little box clicked in blue indicating that you did indeed activate the Download via the store original button. I personally always add a picture number in front of the caption text, especially when you get close to the 10 maximum images, it makes it easier for a viewer to refer to a particular image than have to go back and count the images (and possibly getting them wrong) - it is not necessary but I consider it a curtesy to the viewer.

Does a person have to be registered for a certain length of time before that feature works?

I am just testing this out now to be sure I gave you the right steps, will attach one of my recent images.

It definitely works for me as I described in the steps above. Just to expand on this: When you click on the "Choose File" button, you attach the image file you want, then you wait for a moment until that file name appears beside the "Choose File" button. Then you click on the little white box in front of "(store original)". MAKE SURE THAT YOU SEE A TICK MARK in that box, sometimes I don't get that tick mark on my first try. Once you see the tick mark, then you click on the "Add Attachment" button, after a bunch of seconds, the image will appear and underneath it should be the blue (Download) text.

You do NOT click twice on that button.

That's the best I can do, it works for me - if this still doesn't work, then I am at my wits end.

I am quite sure that you do not have to have to be registered for a certain time before this should work.

Question to our other viewers: Has anybody experienced that the "store original" button does not work - and how did you get around it?

Perhaps because of where I grew up, I've always felt closer to nature then to society. It is where I spent most of my childhood, off on my own, exploring the world around me.

I do have one friend that I go birding with. But she lives 700 miles south of me and only gets up this way a few times a year.
I do enjoy her company very much but wish I had someone to go with me more often. It makes my day when I can share those special moments in person.

I have been able to show her things she would have never seen if she did not know me, like seeing the sharp tailed grouse dancing for the first time, and this past spring I showed her a ruffed grouse drumming, another first for her.
The lady has lived her whole life in the city, she would have no idea where to even start looking for such things.

It is my greatest joy, to share what I know, and what I see. It is why I take photos and why I post them.

I have never done so for profit, even though I have granted permission for a few to be published.
I offer them free to anyone, for personal enjoyment.

It makes my day when someone likes my work enough to download a photo I took.
