I really like it. Perhaps bring up the shadows just a tiny bit. It's nice as is, Don.

Consider cropping down 1/4 from top and cloning out the thing that looks like an alligator on the left

It seems a bit off balance to me. I keep wanting to see what is in the shadows to the right.
Not knowing what exixts to the right, it may be you wouldn't want it in the picture.
You might lighten the shadow are some.

I advocate a heavy crop, coming in from the left to remove the jetty and down from the top until you like the landscape format. This gives a traditional but very pleasing composition not unlike a typical W A Thornley painting. I’d also bring out the shadow detail just a tad. Old Master paintings can give a lot of help in composition and lighting techniques, particularly with a dramatic sunset like this.
Of course there’s actually nothing wrong with the posted image if that’s the way you remember being there. Lovely shot.

I’d take off most of the bland top, just above the interesting clouds. Otherwise, leave it alone.

I really like the colours, and the sky is beautiful. The alligator is a nice addition! I've never been fond of pier shots, as all those masts make the image look really busy. I know some folks like that, so it's just my taste I'm expressing.

I really like this shot, and the only possible suggestion I have is the one Ken made - bring up the shadows a bit and see how it looks.

Cropped to an 8x10, removed "an alligator", opened up some shadows, tried to clone out pier on the left and started to get into trouble there. Could not crop the pier out to keep an 8x10 image (which is what I want), no image left on the right side.
Improvement or worse?

This is better than the first. I think that I would go ahead and clone the rest of the dock out on the left. Otherwise very nice

Going to try and do that PoppieJ. Glad you like my second attempt.
